webfact
Calls for TV soap opera to be droppedThe NationBANGKOK: -- Chiang Mai-based activist Natee Teerarojanapong and advocates yesterday called for RS Channel 8's soap opera Samee Chua Krao (Temporary Husband) to be cancelled within three days on grounds that it depicts conflicting morals within Thai society. The group made their announcement outside the City Hall, saying they saw the inappropriate scenes in the drama's teaser and contacted drama manager Isariya Saisanun for a discussion tomorrow."If things don't go smoothly, we will bring this up before the National Council for Peace and Order through the Chiang Mai governor," he said. The soap drama tells of violent conflict between a mother and daughter, both of whom were intimately involved with the same man who worked as a male prostitute.Source: http://www.nationmultimedia.com/national/Calls-for-TV-soap-opera-to-be-dropped-30238082.html-- The Nation 2014-07-09

BSJ
Thai soapies make me sick when I watch them. The lack of any real/believable story line or the fact that, as mentioned, they all follow the same ridiculous story line makes me wonder if they have infact followed the same formula the American soapie writters have for many years. Best thing to do when the missus is watching is tune out!

It usually prompts her to channel hop, for a while at least. jb1

Popular Post EyesWideOpen
Darn !!! I saw this headline, and I thought that Prayuth had canceled all the insane Thai soap operas. Would be a great move on his part. They are a poor reflection of Thai society, and contribute to moral decay. Every show looks the same to me, people living in giant mansions, crazy women slapping each other, lots of crying, fighting, and gay looking guys shooting each other. These shows are extensively watched throughout Thailand, and represent a massive waste of time.......... Every farang here on TV has a wife/girlfriend who is glued to the television watching these shows like it was the second coming of Christ. Or maybe with the large amount of TV members that have a hi-so Chinese / Thai wife with family connected to high ranking policemen, their wives do not watch the soapies. :-)

noitom
There are plenty of Thai soap real life stories down on Soi Nana and Soi 23 and 33 not counting the hundreds of sois all around besides them. The story line of this soap opera sounded realistic.
chainarong
Well this needs a complete clean up ,the stuff I have seen has to be believed from old ugly guy's dressed up as mutton to Dance the fat off ,nerve screeching females, like a cat sliding down a tin roof , worse than a Chinese Opera, all substandard, can only be classified as junk , these TV stations should go and have a reality check ,then again cheap Sh!!t always attracts a crowd.
Ralf61
Darn !!! I saw this headline, and I thought that Prayuth had canceled all the insane Even generals have wifes, and crossing out those Thai soaps is the only thing he would never dare. But nice to hear the NCPO is expected to have time to deal with that; no more problems at higher priority, all solved already
Chris Lawrence
Coronation Street? Lucky they aren't watching Neighbours? But then again conflict with morals, maybe Natee doesn't get out that much and doesn't know what happens in the streets, as reported in the papers? I think the Thai soaps are great, I can watch them not understand what is being said but become engrossed with the program.

prakhonchai nick
Conflicting morals? Just set foot in almost any Thai Isaan village. Mothers and daughters having sex with the same man is not unusual, and neither is most men having giks. Even puyai baans and those who the villagers respect are not as wholesome as they would have people believe. I doubt it is much different amongst the hi-so's in Bangkok! Oziex1
Get them to switch to Coronation Street.... Tracey Barlow is quite a character now, and sure to amuse the Thais.. Your reference to Coronation Street Robert, makes you a Brit? As a Brit you will know that your very civilised and long standing society has given overwhelming approval to the Aussie soap Neighbours. Clearly the Thais need a generous serving of Ramsey Street to enhance their daily lives.
