Thai military council reconfirms election next year
By Digital Content

BANGKOK, July 9 - NCPO promises foreign military attaches that it is proceeding with its roadmap and the next general election will be held in Thailand next year.

Army Director of Intelligence Maj Gen Pranot Saengthian and spokespersons of the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) held a weekly briefing with military attaches and representatives of 25 countries at Army headquarters today.

Five countries that have no military attaches in Thailand sent representatives to the meeting.

They are from Ukraine, Brunei, Bangladesh, Nepal and Israel.

The Thai military officers confirmed to foreign military attaches that under the first phase of the NCPO roadmap a provisional constitution would be completed within this month.

Under the second phase, a national legislative assembly, an interim government and a national reform council will be formed and a permanent Constitution would be done.

The phase was described as being from August this year to July next year.

Under the third phase with the completed permanent Constitution, a general election would be held within the coming year.

The NCPO also told foreign military attaches that it did not interfere with the mass media.

It asserted that it still prohibited any political activity or protest against it in the country.

The council also asked other countries to follow up the movements of any opponents' movements against it. The council said that such movements appeared to incite unrest. (MCOT online news)

They should learn from the 2006 coup.

Elections not before it's certain, that no foul play and no vicious undercover networking will happen again.

Don't care about international interference of the biased or unknowing countries.

Better a later date for election than another failed one.

And definitely no elections until the candidate they would like to win is absolutely guaranteed to do so.

PTP or whatever name they go by, will probably win whatever they do. Groundhog year all over again.

PTP changing their name MOP (military ousted party)

And yes it could well be that MOP cleans up again no matter what!

laugh.pnglaugh.pnglaugh.png Did I read that right?

As well as suppressing any opposition in Thailand, they want foreign militaries to do the same in their own countries? You can just see it now - The German or British army storming buildings in their own countries to crack down on PTP because the great General in Thailand told them to. biggrin.png

Thailand is looking more ridiculous by the day and is swiftly becoming a laughing stock of North Korea proportions. To have someone even suggest that above shows delusions of grandeur and a detatchment from reality that is breath taking.

ps Has anyone seen any of this unrest they talk of? That sandwich eating incident a few weeks back sure was nasty dont get me wrong, but I cant think of any real unrest as such?

Please don't be afraid to use the word <deleted>, it is now an acceptable word in general usage.

" Nonsense; rubbish (used to express contempt or disagreement, or as an exclamation of annoyance)."

Oxford dict. It also has another slightly different meaning, as you know.wink.png

PTP will probably still win again, and they will probably still break rules, waste lots of money, and try and give Thaksin amnesty ... and then they'll get thrown out again.

TRT, PPP and PTP were all doing fine, until they took the corruption too far or tried to whitewash Thaksin of his crimes.

It seems they never learn. Hopefully, 4th time lucky.

incite -: encourage or stir up (violent or unlawful behavior)

The PTP / red shirts out of the country are *encouraging* unrest. That doesn't mean that there *is* unrest ... yet.

Who said I want them to win. You really think the dems in their current form can win? Now that is a good joke. Where is Abhisit these days?

Prayudh got him confined to barracks?

I don't know what everybody's worried about. Generals have a fine history of success as democratic leaders in Idi Amin, Assad, Tito, Galtieri.. even Saddam Hussein achieved Lieutenant General. Another great leader who follows the principles of democracy is Robert Mugabe who gets re-elected every year. What can possibly go wrong?

I think they are well aware of that fact. If you have been following the news the EC is making it a lot tougher for a political party to take over the country and run rough shod over it.

Look for politicians to be in jail come next election time.

Always nice too hear from the PTP supporters in the face of the fiasco they have made of Thailand. Three in one post. A strike out for sure.

He probably learned more from North Korea!

Political parties are chosen by the electorate to govern, Generals are appointed by the government to defend their country. It's a tried and tested formula in most civilized countries.

clap2.gif They were not Thai also they had no plans to turn the country into a true democracy. They intended it to remain a dictatorship and would occasionally throw a fixed election to fool people like you. You also for got Eisenhower and George Washington. How convenient.cheesy.gifcheesy.gif

It didn't work in this one. Is that why you decided to live here because you thought it was uncivilized and you could get away with any thing in a barbaric culture? Surprise you figured wrong.

I wonder how many more posters are we going to have to listen to who prefer corruption over a government trying to hold it back. Could start a club for them and have fab 4 the leader.

I'm not clear on your point here. Dwight Eisenhower was a popular military figure elected to the presidency as a civilian. And George Washington resigned his military commission at the end of the war. No less than 6 years before being elected president.

Neither of them came to, or maintained power, by extraordinary means.
