A little misleading header I guess :-)

However guys this is the name of the website ,

Ive posted here as alot of the tech guys are aware of this allready and wanted it to get to a more less tech savvy group.

Go the website mentioned and download it to your gmail into your email account , ( its an officially approved addon )

Quite a handy tool ,

Once you have sent an email , it will let you know when the email has been opened by the receiver , also where they were when it was opened and on what device , smartphone , laptop , etc..

Always handy to know if your mail has been viewed , and where .

I just use it for buisiness mails , however Im guessing if any of you guys are back in farangland sending emails to your Tilak, might be handy to know if she opened it where she says she is , and not , ahem on a trip with a "friend" while your away ;-)

Hope it helps ;-)

Believe 'streak' works by sending an image in the email with code attached (image may be only 1x1 pixel and transparent).

If using Thunderbird to vies email then by default it will block these images so it will not work.

If reading mail on a browser adblock can be used to foil it. Also vaguely remember that a particular url could be blocked via the HOSTS file to also stop this.

Might be better in the 'computers' forum where the experts in these matters can give more info.

the more the better i guess ,

And does the person receiving the email get told that all the above information is being sent to the sender ?

Any email I get that requires a receipt being sent before opening gets binned. Why do you feel the need to spy on either friends or worse customers ? I wouldn't be a customer for very long to a company that wanted to spy on me so much thats for sure.

Generally speaking if an email contains images and you automagically open them, then a web beacon (bug) can send the info back without you even knowing it.

But if you block images and only load the ones you click, then you're OK.

Like I said, it used to be an old spammers trick to tell them if your address was active. Then they could sell it on.

"DidTheyReadIt" - another web site doing the same thing for years.

My email client stops it working by not letting pictures be displayed automatically, which is the default for most clients, I believe.

Wow...I definitely want to use some apps that do this.

How you call this spying is beyond me .

Its a simple tool that allows you to know if someone has read the email you sent them.

Same as the sms alert to say an sms you sent has been read.

The same as a line message you send automatically notes read when the receiver reads it.

Sure maybe some people may misuse its intent , as i pointed out in my op for some of its other uses but to see if an email you sent has been read is hardly spying is it.?

It most certainly is their business if business, or urgency is involved.

No more excuses like, "sorry it was in the junk-mail folder", "I've only just seen it" etc.

Yes, but they're not email clients are they?

They are instant messaging platforms. There is a reason why the word "Instant" is included.

Anyone who uses email for business critical, confidential or urgent communication is an idiot.

Besides which it's very easy to block this sort of web beacon. And I've already given you a good reason.

So it's absolutely pointless.

So it doesn't just tell you they have read your mail then does it ? Telling you where it was opened, on what etc is spying in my book.

I work on the old fashioned method. When I receive a reply to my email I know they have opened it. thumbsup.gif

I don't need to know where they were when they opened it or with what.

It won't do anything of the kind if you send me an email, I can assure you.

If your using a VPN, would it give that location?

If the observer only sees the external address of your VPN provider, yes.

But if someone sent you an email, they'll already be able to find out your real public IP address from the domain name.

To elaborate on this, sending an email in know way guarantees delivery, even if you try using trick in the OP.

There are many other methods of guaranteeing your message gets delivered, to name but three: Fax; Phone; FTP.

There are even cloud services which will notify you when the file has been collected.

If you use an e-mail client like Thunderbird

there is an option to click to get a delivery report

If you are worried about other people reading your mail

then there is the Enigmail option to encrypt your messages

No doubt the security services can break it, but it should foil the random snooper

All that really tells you is that it's been picked up by a mail server. Doesn't mean it's been delivered to the user, or even the user's mail server.

Is your definition of 'not spying' similar to the NSA in the U.S.?

Frankly, I'm note sure what your motivation was for creating the original thread, except maybe to 'suggest' that Thai Visa members shouldn't use the specific feature set for other purposes. Very strange. But you did give a bunch of presumably bored people something to do. Thank You?
