cost of camcorders in thailand

Featured Replies

Recently have been shopping for camcorders and the prices are outrageous. Both retail and mail order...

The current model I'm looking at is the Panasonic hc-v550 which sells for 20k baht in Thailand, but about 12k from bhphoto or amazon.

Why 40% more expensive here?

Because In Thailand people only buy them for recording porn... every one else uses their phones .. for both!

Import duties and taxes is the simple answer.

You might also want to take into consideration that any video camera you buy here will record in PAL format, while in the USA it will be NTSC. Just in case that is important to you.

I've been to a lot of professional video shoots in Thailand and more often than not, they use DSLR's to shoot video rather than camcorders...even professional grade. This is especially true when shooting out of a studio or in confined locations.

CANON D-6's and 7's are seen a lot.
