webfact
Japanese chamber makes proposals to junta, based on 3 principlesThe NationBANGKOK: -- The Japanese Chamber of Commerce in Bangkok has proposed to the National Council for Peace and Order three major principles - transparency of government procedures, respect for the market economy, and liberalisation of the economy in steps to improve competitiveness.Hisamichi Koga, president and executive director of the JCC, last week met with Air Chief Marshal Prajin Juntong of the NCPO, who is in charge of the economy, to discuss how to drive the economy in the future. After the discussion, the JCC proposed many issues for further effort:l Steadily implementing the action plan based on the schedule to return to democracy with an election;l Establishing a government that will issue economic policies that are handled and determined by economic and business experts;l Limiting intervention in the economy and business to necessary measures to stabilise the economy and life of citizens;l Introducing a well-designed system to promote transparency and efficiency of government procedures including customs and projects to help eliminate corruption, such as disclosing objective criteria for project approval or tendering as well as disclosing results of bidding on projects, and abolishing the reward system for customs officers;l Promoting outward-looking trade policies to take a lead in the Asean Economic Community, RCEP (Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership among Asean+6 countries, which will be negotiated by the end of next year) and Thai-European Union Free Trade Agreement;l Developing hard infrastructure, such as roads, railroads, and East-West and Southern Economic Corridors to Myanmar, and soft infrastructure, such as the improvement of customs and transport agreements to upgrade connectivity with neighbouring countries after a necessary review of planning and financing;l Steadily implementing water-management projects after a review of planning;l Developing human resources to make Thailand a more advanced hub of this region through education, training, and innovation and research and development;l Securing a stable energy supply at reasonable prices via efficient channels;l Supporting small and medium-sized enterprises as important supporting industries in their access to finance, technology and information;l Abolishing the restrictions on facilitating investment for the service sector;l Opening up investment for those sectors step by step, in order to enhance the international competitiveness of the economy;l Providing more incentives to establish regional headquarters or regional operating headquarters in Thailand.Japanese companies have been good partners of Thailand for a long time and have made commitments in the development of the economy, Koga said."We hope that the NCPO will consider the following points in the process of policy decision-making: transparency in government procedures, importance of the market economy, and strength of the economy by opening it up through free-trade agreements," he said.Prajin explained that the three-stage road map of the NCPO to return to democracy was going smoothly and now was at the first step, he said."The NCPO is well aware that we have to make efforts to realise economic development while maintaining peace and order. We will also try to restore confidence and invite more investment from abroad," he said.Source: http://www.nationmultimedia.com/business/Japanese-chamber-makes-proposals-to-junta-based-on-30238485.html-- The Nation 2014-07-

Pralaad
All valid and progressive proposals. Junta seems to be doing what is best for the country unlike all previous governments. Before one can run, one needs to walk. With so many changes happening at the moment, I believe people need to wait and see, as more changes to come. Also with ASEAN around the corner, we should expect a number if changes and I believe in a positive direction towards foreigners and foreign investment. Thailand has been rather hiding out place for many, possibly with all the changes and visa crackdowns, it will bring more productive and beneficial foreign businesses and businessman
Popular Post spidermike007
Anything they can do to put pressure on the powers that be, is a good thing. The only way positive change happens here, is through outside pressure. That is the only way. It never happens from within. It never happens because some really smart guys decided to be proactive. Because some guys decided to implement great policy for the betterment of the nation. Because of the infinite wisdom of the government. It happens due to external pressure. Due to embarrassment and shame. Due to a black eye. Period. End of story. Kudos to the Japanese for applying the pressure. Where would Thailand be without Japanese manufacturing.

WitawatWatawit
"Also with ASEAN around the corner, ..." ASEAN is already around the corner. You mean AEC, ASEAN Economic Community. Nicely formulated and worded list by the Japanese. An addendum: The NCPO institute a policy of aggresive and progressive retraining of teachers, effective immediately.
Popular Post northernjohn
Sounds like an new MBA grad putting his proposals in for a new project in a textbook environment. Do they forget who they are talking to? No they are well aware of who they are talking to. They know that they are dealing with a government interested in the welfare of Thailand. They would never have made these proposals to the previous government interested in one man in Dubai and filling their off shore accounts. They waited watched the actions of the coup and judged them to be a caring honest government so they stepped in with their suggestions.

ginjag
Good proposals, shame no ones listening You were there were you, extremely negative post. From the proposals made to this minute, and quote "no one is listening" It's time some posters started to be more positive when the army are doing well in this short space of time. The last government needed to be slammed/slagged for it's anti democratic style of governing, now we get posters doing the same slagging and slamming the army who are only clearing the mess. If the army are doing a bad job you will see the majority of posters who were very critical of PTP, will apply the same stance against the army. Give the army room to try at least.

I would venture to say these same people who are down on the coup leaders for not having it all cleaned up in less than two months were slathering at the feet of Yingluck when she said give me six months.

northernjohn
Quite a comprehensive list. Isn't it a shame it has to be spelt out in such a rudimentary fashion, and by another nation? Well you may be rite it is a shame it had to be "spelt out in such a rudimentary fashion, and by another nation" but there is also the other side of the coin. You know the one where the Japanese where just happy to have a government willing to listen to such rudimentary thoughts as compared to the previous one. The fact that they thought this government needed to hear it was not the issue. It was also a political statement to cater to the U S. Who in turn is trying to back down from their hard line stand. In short the comical side of politics. Know nothing. Run off at your mouth and later try to back out of it gracefully.
