Ebola outbreak in West Africa difficult to contain

As I understand it, the Reston strain is less severe and has a lower mortality rate.   That could actually make it more dangerous.

Is Ebola coming to Britain? UK health officials issue warning to doctors as outbreak fears grow

Public health officials have issued an urgent warning to British doctors to watch for signs of the Ebola virus arriving in the UK, after an infected man was allowed to fly from the affected countries to a major international travel hub.

questions remain as to how Mr Sawyer, whose sister had just died from Ebola and who had started presenting symptoms, was allowed to board multiple international flights.Experts say he could have passed on the disease to anyone sat near him or who used the same toilet on one of the planes.

This is why I asked Scotty to start this topic, which he kindly did.

I think this is a real global threat right now, potentially more than any other at present.

An infected man passing through an international travel hub .

This is beginning to sound like a scene from some movie

I saw on television that it is now the largest outbreak of Ebola ever recorded.

It’s also the first time the virus has moved by jet. Before it was always " contained " locally .

Unfortunately we can't access the Daily Mail website in Thailand because they offended the authorities.

If Scott allows it would it be possible for you to cut and paste the content of the article?

Although NBC is trying to play down the situation by saying there is little risk, it appears that the USA is already establishing quarantine centres.

The U.S. Is Quietly Establishing Ebola Quarantine Centers

Both Dr. Jane Orient, one of Arizona’s top physicians as well as other researchers, such as myself, have received information, from Border Patrol informants, that as many as 100,000 West Africans are being admitted to the United States under the same provisions that President Obama is presently admitting so-called “unaccompanied minors”.blink.png  These people are from the same region of the world as the uncontained outbreak of Ebola. As Dr. Orient said in her interview on The Common Sense Show, on June 30, 2014, “It is not a matter of if Ebola comes into the United States, but when.”

That article was exceedingly long, but the alarming part about Patrick Sawter was that 35 Nigerians on his flight apparently took off into Lagos to avoid being quarantined. I prese they tracked down the rest of the people in that flight since focus was on the 35. This is bad though because Lagos has an extremely dense population. May see some pretty drastic quarantines soon. Prayers for those affected.

Nigeria 'placed on red alert' over Ebola death

Nigeria says it has put all entries into the country on red alert after confirming the death of a Liberian man who was carrying the Ebola virus.

The man died after arriving at Lagos airport on Tuesday, in the first Ebola case in Africa's most populous country.

This should be the World's top priority right now.

Recent Ebola growth rate: Word health organisation

2 months ago - 170 people

1 month ago - 337 people

24 days ago - 759 people

More recent stats are contradictory but growing rapidly. Statistics in the countryside are underreported.

Incubation is 3 to 21 days

GP's in the UK have been briefed on Ebola and asked to look out for it. blink.png

I remember a Nigerian friend who lived in London saying, "we call London little Nigeria, because so many Nigerians live there".

(That's not a racial slur before anyone starts, just a mention of how small the World is now)

So then what are they calling Bangkok these days? Big Nigeria?

Everyone should carry alcohol hand sanitizer with them applying it frequently, and avoid touching BTS or public hand rails.

Wash hands frequently and avoid people coughing and sneezing. With an incubation period of two days to three weeks, many will flee Africa not knowing they are carriers. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, mouth and others during a known outbreak. Avoid shaking hands.

Everyone should read the definition of Ebola, learn the symptoms, prepare, eat healthy to strengthen your immune system as there is no known cure other than hydration and intravenous drip therapy.

Wearing an approved, recommended, double band, with tight seal surgical mask in the crowded BTS is also recommended in the near future.

If there is an outbreak here, I will be avoiding the BTS and crowds.

Ebola can be transmitted sexually as well.

Ebola virus a threat to UK, Philip Hammond warns

The Ebola virus, which has killed more than 670 people in West Africa, is a "threat" to the UK, Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond has told the BBC.

Thinking about Heathrow, one of the busiest airports in the World as a distribution point if Ebola got in there.

Yes, it makes you wonder how Philip Hammond seems to be taking it seriously, describing it as a threat while on the other side of the pond  “Ebola poses little risk to the U.S. general population." blink.png

I think Americans need to worry more about a government whose main concern would be not to incite panic more than telling people the truthph34r.png

Drop the anti US rhetoric for a moment and you may find US noting similar concerns GB. No reason to panic yet though. Some of you guys get too exited about stuff like this like you are waiting for or hoping for EOW scenarios.

Ebola, Spreading in Africa, Could Land in US

Its true that anyone with an illness is just one plane ride away from coming to the U.S., said John OConnor, a spokesman for the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. But we have protections in place.

Canada probes possible Ebola case

http://edition.cnn.com/2014/03/24/health/canada-possible-ebola-case/index.html

You do realize you are citing and linking an article from March 2014???

That related to a doctor returning from Liberia in March that had flu like symptoms, but did not have Ebola. Check your sources man.

---------

There's never been a case of Ebola outside of Africa. The risk to Canadians remains very low, despite the ongoing outbreak in West Africa. The World Health Organization does not recommend any travel restrictions be applied to the countries affected by this current outbreak, although Liberia has closed its borders to avoid further spread.

Earlier this year, doctors feared a Saskatchewan man may have contracted the virus after becoming sick following a trip to Liberia. The Public Health Agency of Canada later announced the man tested negative for Ebola.
