Thailand, Vietnam agree to boost diplomatic relations

BANGKOK, July 17 -- Thailand and Vietnam agree to expand diplomatic relations and Thailand thanks Vietnam for lifting its negative warning against its people visiting Thailand.

Sihasak Phuangketkeow, permanent secretary of the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs, welcomed Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister Pham Quang Vinh who visited Thailand.

They co-chaired the 4th Thailand-Vietnam Political Consultation Group meeting at the ministry.

Thailand thanked Vietnam for lifting its advisory for its nationals not to visit Thailand.

Thai authorities confirmed in the meeting that the National Council for Peace and Order was working restoring sustainable peace to Thai society.

The Vietnamese side expressed its hope that Thailand would have a fully authorized government soon.

They also discussed their widened cooperation at the multilateral level, especially within the ASEAN framework.

Thailand and Vietnam agreed that solutions to security issues in the South China Sea must be peaceful and be based on international law.

They agree that there should be a code of conduct to ensure peaceful exploitation in the South China Sea and that concerned countries should develop marine cooperation to relieve tensions there. (MCOT online news)

BANGKOK: -- Vietnam has cancelled a warning against its people visiting Thailand, Sihasak Phuangketkeow, permanent secretary of the Thai Foreign Ministry, said yesterday.

The statement came after Sihasak and Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister Pham Quang Vinh co-chaired the fourth Thailand-Vietnam Political Consultation Group meeting in Bangkok.

Thailand thanked Vietnam for lifting the travel advisory.

Thai authorities told the meeting that the National Council for Peace and Order was working at restoring sustainable peace to society.

Vietnam expressed its hope that Thailand would have a fully authorised government soon.
