This situation is kinda a win-win for the NCPO, if she goes and doesn't return she will be found guilty in absentia on one or many of the present and future charges she faces and will face and the current rulers will have deleted another one of the Shinawatra brood from this land of smiles. If she returns (and she could, I will say one thing for Yingee she has shown more spine than her older male clone) then the leaders will have the satisfaction of putting one of the Shin family members through the justice system and finding her (undoubtedly) guilty. And if this scenario occurs IMHO she'll get some type of pardon. Shrewd move by the NCPO all round.

What 'found guilty in absentia'? You're wrong, sorry, there will not be any court case even started when she doesn't come back, because Thai Law, very oddly, requires the physical presence of the accused at the introduction of the case in front of the case 'to hear the charges against him/her'! Didn't you know that? Why do you think the are over a dozen courtcases against Thaksin which have to be kept 'in the fridge' until he comes back? That's the reason why! And Thaksin (as far as he can't get his much desired amnesty), like many another piece of garbage of a politician, or family of, is 'playing' on the statue of limitation, which is set by Thai Law at 10 years, another oddity: whether you escaped, fled abroad, aso, not changing a thing to this delay... So, when the Law is not changed, Thaksin could come back in 4 years with all the pending cases against him declared invalid!

For those who truly want reform and not simply another version of Thai-ness then this woman should be banned from leaving the country and subjected to the full extent of the evidence against her and if found guilty then duly sentenced in accordance with the law. This is the only way to show the nation that the current regime is truly interested in reform and equality. Anything less would be an admission that Thailand is incapable of moving forward.

Still for Thailand to move forward the public trial and conviction of Ms. Yingluck would not bring the happiness, harmony and reconciliation the NCPO tries to achieve. Absolute justice would not help Thailand in this case, just like absolute democracy doesn't work here.

Reconciliation, happiness and the move forward wouldn't be helped by putting Ms. Yingluck in a situation in which others could make her seem a martyr for 'democracy', 'the good cause', 'the whatever'. Also somehow I don't think Ms. Yingluck is really looking forward to being sacrificed even if she stated a while a go to be willing to die if that would help Thailand.
