28/28 rotations: is there a maximum of 30 day visa on arrivals per year?

Recommended Posts

This excessively zealous approach is currently used only by some entry points in the south of Thailand. He should use another entry point, by land or air, visa-exempt or with a tourist visa.

Appologies if I'm reading the extension info on the forum wrongly, but I wondered if guys on a 28/28 rota (adding a couple travel days) so say 30 days out, may be ok for the consideration period, since they'd be returning from work close to the time when the consideration period may be up, I thought by applying for a re entry stamp you can keep the application live? I've only been reading up on this info re ext based on marriage but is it not the same?Apologies once again if I'm incorrect

Because of the way the application for extension to live with one's Thai child is processed, with a 30-day "under consideration" period, it would not be practical to apply for it when on a 28/28 rotation.[/quote]

While its understandable you point out its only some.. Once you list them up... Sadao, padangbasar, perlis, betong, etc etc.. A whole load of ferry crossings also down there.. Then most importantly air for Phuket / Krabi / Samui.. Then add Ranong.. It becomes a not insignificant amount of entry points. Which geographically covers a lot of the country including both farang enclaves of Samui and Phuket who use these. Both as points of international entry and to manage the occasional emergency extension of a rotation.

Lots of the 28/28 guys I know the company flies them via Sing or KL so the first point of entry is one of these southern airports. Not everyone gets the luxury of picking bangkok as their transit.

I understand the spirit of the advice is given in the way to find a solution.. But when your company sends you that way its not always so simple to control.

Franky, I think you are solid OK also but since you have family would not extenstion of stay by marriage or "retirement" not be the way to go? There are vacation months and other times you want to stay more than 30 days right? I'm stuck looking at the Elite card, and I don't golf!

yeah i am going to get married when i come back around Aug 18th. Then i'll get the proper marriage visa when we go to the UK as a family (which was planned before this started anyway)

In order to fit the under consideration period into a the 28 days out would be hard to do. If they start it from the date you apply you would have to leave the next day do it. Some offices start it for the date your current permit to stay ends.which would make it even harder.

Also for the first extension you would need to be here for the home visit if the immigration office does them. Some offices have you bring witnesses when you apply instead.

Never had a home visit, or taken a witness.. In 5 extensions in 2 parts of the country. Didnt actually know it was the norm until seeing comments here.

I do take photos of the house, with us stood in front of it.. Some offices wanted that, others didnt.

agree the 28/28 lifestyle makes marriage visas a problem (in ohh so many ways ;) ) only real suggestion is explaining to work and making a long stay from one rota.

CONFIRMED : a colleague of mine entered Thailand yesterday Monday 21st via Suvarnabhumi on a visa exempt, having many exempt stamps in his passport, no overstays and no borderruns. No questions asked.

So far the only confirmation I had is that people being targeted are the ones doing visa runs, be it by land or air. Overstayers have always been illegal and had to pay fines. No-one else. Did anyone already care to mention that daily over 100,000 people enter the country viaSuvarnabhumi, of which quite a few have more then one visa exempt stamp I am sure. How many A380's would need to be on standby to get all these people out of the coutnry on a daily basis?

We should stay real and count our blessings how lucky we are to be able to be in a country like Thailand.

Good to hear. I have said in other posts, there will have been at least a thousand 28/28 workers come into the country since this kicked off, not one confirmed of being turned away. With a forum as busy as TV we would have heard if there was one 100% confirmed

i have just had a telephone conversation with my Lawyers/visa company and there informing me that about 10% of offshore guys are currently bieng refused entry using the visa excepmt they feel its a case sensitve act dependant on the officer.but have warned me that from the august deadline it will likey hit all 28/28 rotaional guys.non tourist.

they have advised me to make a booking to laos for the same day as arrival, then try to enter through normal channels then if i am denyed entry i can fly onto Laos to gain a non immimgrant visa O..but its catch 22 as to get the visa you will need documents like birth certificates if you have chirldren or marriage certs..all orginals..thats a problem for me and my catch 22 as i dont carry them with me,,so need to get home to get the bleeding things first,,

best thing we can do is update as often as possible with news as we are doing and once we get to swampy blog the outcomes..

anyother trip i wouldnt have minded(so much) i would have just returned to Blighty, but my partner is expecting our 2nd child this time home...and i have family arrining for it also..just my luck that the Junta make a move like this..

That means there's been roughly 2-500 28/28 guys refused entry in this last week.

Yet not one mention of it on here or through the many i know that live in Thailand, and the people they know etc etc etc.

I smell something.....

Obviously they don't but with the volume of traffic on here, then add the amount of people that will either know someone on a 28/28 or by proxy we would have known if there was such a high volume of knock backs. I've not heard of one and i reckon off the top of my head i know at least 6 that have gone into Thailand this last few days, not a pip.

I think i'll listen to immigration officers rather than people looking to make money from you.

Franky, yeah thats right but I fly to BKK from Japan. Nagoya, Osaka, Fukuoka, usually NRT. I have only been asked to show return ticket once or twice. Thai immigration has never asked to show return ticket.

Having been flying in from Japan NRT for the last 24 years I have frequently had my return ticket checked by the airline.

It depends on the airline you fly Thai don't, US always do, others vary. Edited by sometimewoodworker

I came through Immigration last night at Swampy but due to an upgrade to Business, I was forced to go through the VIP lane at Immigration. Anyhow, the Immigration officer spent quite some time going through my passport and after a while handed it back with a stamp and no comment (not even a smile). The airport was basically crowded with Chinese tour groups (the kind that requires a guide with a flag and that don't know how to use the moving walkways). As I passed through, I glanced over at all the plebs in the "economy class" Immigration queues and it didn't look fun. I didn't hear any shouts of protest from any sexpats being denied entry although with all the noise the tour groups were making, I cannot be certain this wasn't happening.  To be honest, all I was focussed on doing was getting my bag, grabbing a duty free bottle and GTFO.

Glad to be home. Now the long painful process of wasting precious home time sitting around at Chaeng Wattana for a marriage visa, begins.

I see both sides of this.. Current law implies there will be issues, people are living here using visa classes not designed to live on.. This is the criteria immigration have publicly said they will clamp down and stop.

The other side is these people dont work here (the ultimate aim of what they are doing) and on average are the kind of larger spending demographic that it wouldnt be smart to move on to neighboring countries.

Right now, I am leaning with Franky Bears thought that there is not likely to be an out and out blanket refusal on these people, yet I also see the potential for occasional mistaken implementation and officer discretion to rear its ugly head.. You would only need one of two of those, after a long haul flight, to be denied going 'home' and sent to another country for an unknown time.. To sour you on the thai experience fairly heavily. I think that is a concern for anyone continuing to use these.

The second issue, is what now happens to delayed rotation workers, who cant just grab another 30 days with a weekend out of the country.. That does happen and is a new aspect. Right now Phuket and the south is being clear they will not accept someone going and getting a tourist visa simply to return, much less a 30 day OI stamp.

LivinLOS your 100% correct ,

and this morning More free advice came my way  from my Lawyer and he is being told that as of today its completely down to the individual immigration officers and for the most part thinks that there will be very little disruption.but from the August deadline i believe 12th or 13th we will see a 100% clampdown and where he is advised that visa exempt will be only approved for those tourists as package tours, backpakers, and for frequent visitors with less than 5 entry's for 1 year,

but as we all now know ..and as he is advising me as my lawyer .if you want to live in Thailand be it permanently or frequently ..better to get a correct Multi entry visa,as which ever way we put it ..in truth we are not tourists.

Now obvious this is rubbish. Backpackers?
There is no way they would state an arbitrary limit

of less than 5 entries per annum as this would bar the

Sino-tycoons who fly in from Singapore to play golf, and other things,

almost every weekend.smile.png

G'day

I normally arrive in Bangkok & get a visa exempt stamp every month & sometimes if I stay longer than 30 days I go to the nearest immigration & fill out a TM.7 form for a 60 day visa that's when you have a child born here in Thailand!

I was wondering if I was to carry all the required paperwork(child birth cert.etc) can you apply for this visa on arrival at Bangkok airport?

Does anyone know?

Just wondering if anyone else has done it already?

That info could help a few of us out after next month!

I've got 5 exempt stamps already this year & many for last year too!

No questions asked to me last Tuesday tho, so that was good!

When I leave I leave for 4 weeks so I wouldn't class myself as an I/O but who knows??

No one yet reading on most forums.

No. That has to be done at an Immigration Office, that BKK airport is not.
