Lite Beer
Assassination Attempt Wounds Northern Red Activist By Khaosod Eng. CHIANG MAI — A prominent Redshirt activist was shot and injured by unidentified gunmen in his home in the northern city of Chiang Mai last night. Niyom Lueangcharoen, aka "DJ Lae", was shot twice in his leg. His condition is now stable, police say. Mr. Niyom is an active member of the local Redshirt community and co-founder the Red Lanna group in Chiang Mai province. Pol.Lt. Songsak Tanyadee, a police officer at San Kamphaeng Police Station, said an unknown number of assailants opened fire on Mr. Niyom from a nearby orchard where they were hiding. Mr. Niyom was brought to hospital by his relatives, Pol.Lt. Songsak said. The officer added that the police are investigating the incident and have not established a motive behind the assassination attempt. A veteran political activist, Mr. Niyom had previously been a member of the radical Love Chiang Mai 51 group and faced several lawsuits for his political activity. A ideological schism in the leadership of Love Chiang Mai 51 later led Mr. Niyom to leave organisation and found the Red Lanna network in June 2011. Although police stress that there is not yet evidence that the shooting was politically-motivated, the attack occurred amidst an ongoing climate of fear in Redshirt provinces in the wake of the 22 May military coup d’etat. Bluespunk
"The officer added that the police are investigating the incident and have not established a motive behind the assassination attempt." Using the word assassination tends to suggest a political motive.

Popular Post thaipod
Maybe the locals have realized that these so called red leaders didn't make their life any better. They had to stand there and watch them become wealthy and live the good life, and be used by them to the end.

Popular Post Luk Mhee
This man should be put in protective custody, to be shot in the leg is clearly not an assassination attempt, it is a warning to keep his mouth shut, or face assassination, the man knows, and has too much information.

UbonRatch
A shot to the knees, or lower legs, is normally a mafioso warning; the mafiosos being associated with whom nobody knows at this point. It's possible he was about to squeal about somebody higher up, after the recent pressure he's been placed under. Time to keep a low profile, or there won't be a next time. Dirty tricks is dirty tricks... you're either in it or out of it. He was in it knee deep.

Even with posters complaining about the NCPO criminalizing any report which critisises the NCPO in some way, KhaoSod still seems to get away with their implicit suggestion Of course I may mis-interpret, maybe they just want to imply that with the NCPO simply being is enough reason for politically motivated fear and attacks ? Would red-shirts turn on each other ?

jaidam
So anyway, now that the authorities have caught him, he will be going straight to prison to serve his sentence for murder, right??? http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/354516-five-red-shirts-jailed-for-murder-in-chang-mai/ And look on the bright side, if he's walking around on his knees, he won't need to bend over to pick up the cunningly dropped soap, although he probably will anyway. Popular Post mikemac
Either this simpleton accidentally shot himself in the leg (twice to be sure), or he was caught stealing fruit, or the prediction I made here on TV about 6 months ago is happening - that the people of Thailand will turn on these red thugs and the day will come when they will be hiding out in holes like the vermin they really are. As jaidam stated, this lowlife should have been behind bars serving a long sentence for murder.

lostsoul49
Strange how HIS appeal process is taking so far over 4 years and counting. Normally it is 1 year at the most.... Looks like strings are being pulled to keep these thugs free. That is the second time there has been an assassination attempt on his life. Third time lucky? The old thread you are quoting was misinformation, and the TVF member who claimed a murder conviction was banned. Look at the first posters' icon, you clueless group thinking mobs. Further, this is the second attack on his home. The first attack was reported in Thailand news in June 2011. http://www.thailandnews.co/category/chiang-mai/page/22/ As I said before, the red haters are slightly funnier than the red lovers -- the pseudo self-righteous attitude lets you have selective memory, posit fictional histories you tell each other, and any comment you don't like creates a name calling spree that makes Gerbils look like an ad rep for McDonald's. This is HILARIOUS -- posters saying he should be buggered, beaten, maimed and worse, just because they WANTED to believe what they read, and then went on to accuse the Big bad Guy of trying to silence him because he 'knows too much'...all based on pure fiction. I will treasure this whole thread. Worse, the man split from the main Reds because they were becoming violent. And you meatballs roll off the plate patting each other on the back for baseless accusations, and then even fantasized about punishments for his imaginary crime. Really, do any of you 'team players' realize there is no team. You do not even qualify to lose. You are buying what they are selling. Thaksin is a symptom, a bad one, and nothing is being done to treat the illness. He has disillusioned the people he was supposed to be helping, but even when he is gone they will still have legitimate grievances. siampolee
I agree with those posters who take the view that this was a warning to the victim to keep mum about what and whom he knows Start to sing a loud song in exchange for ones liberty and some people are going to become even paranoid as to the prospects regarding their. life, liberty and future freedom being endangered by a self serving solo singer thus they get a trifle angry. Political paymaster(s) or possibly fellow political activists, they are the endangered species, a nod is a good as a wink you know what I mean?
