Actually this could have been a deal brokered between the Junta and thaksin.... Don't invite PTP or any Reds Shirts and we will let your sister leave the country.

Also, had they all got together, the media would have been all over it, and the Junta would have likely rejected all applications to travel seeing as almost everyone in that clan need to seek permission from the Junta to leave.

this is a face save for the junta. Yinny buggers off, no prison time , no protests about gaoling her and no headaches and she learns to wear a batman outfit.

Well saying publicly he does not want them to go saves losing face when he is Billy No Mates at his own party with just him and Yingluck playing musical chairs.

Do people even celebrate birthdays anymore after about 10 years old?

Only those who have to try to prove they are something special by throwing lavish doo's for photo op's, an attention getting thing by the insecure.

Only if you throw your own party. If somebody else does it without your knowledge where does that fit in?

Sounds like a deal has been done, sounds like he has sold out his "redshirts" again.

I am taking it as the opposite. Thaksin is deviously brilliant and always planning. Perhaps, instead of distancing himself from them, he is having them distance themselves from him as he plans his next moves. This keeps things in the background.

Never take anything he says or does at face value.

Agreed, The Desert Coward will be plotting his next move. He is a narcissist and he will believe that he can outsmart everyone. A sick man really, but deserves no pity

Well, I think something completely obvious might happen. Yingluck will come back, face the music she orchestrated, and become the Thai Aung San Suu Kyi in prison...you can't kill a martyr....and if she died in prison -- WORSE.

The fat lady is not singing yet.

No kidding. Expect it.

They do down here. Instead of pop it's alcohol.

I feel sorry not for Thaksin who I do wish a happy birthday but for the above posters who are so happy at the thought he won't have one.

I feel sad for them as they clearly have little else to do other than wish misery on people they don't know (but think they do) and feel some strange need to say so publicly here.

Are you hoping your views will some how make you popular on TV? Just what is your motivation for spewing out such hatred?

Get a life guys

I feel the same way. Such anger and judgement from a bunch of hateful people. I feel like I'm tuned into Fox News in the U. S. The rhetoric sounds very nasty, biased, and divisive. All is not as it seems and I would caution against taking sides in this unfortunate THAI situation. Most of us are here as guests and, I believe, as guests we should try to keep a positive attitude and not promote more of the same anger and accusations that have been a major part of the dialogue over the past couple of years. Seek the truth, if you can find the time between negative posts. I think you'll be more than a bit surprised.

After looking at your avatar I thought you looked remarkably like my brother, but after reading what you wrote I knew he wasn't that stupid.

I think that's too much conspiracy theory. The guy at 65 knows he lost his powergame to return to Thailand as the long lost champion of the masses. All his strategies failed. Even the terror thing and burning BKK threat.

Now he seems to be taking his big losses. He will continue living the rich life and he will be missing Thailand till his last breath. I cannot imagine he wil be a happy person, despite his billions.

I'm not so sure, IIRC there were strong rumours a year-or-so-ago that he was talking to the military, via back-channels ?

On a separate angle, wonder why he's holding the party in Paris, rather than where his home is in Dubai ? Could those rumours, of the welcome-mat being rolled-up, have had some substance ?

Lastly I wonder how many red-shirt leaders would have gone, could low numbers have been part of the problem, a ticket to Paris costs more than to Singapore or Hong Kong?

Whatever, the former-PM has now reached normal retirement-age, time for him to spend more time with his family & looking after his other business interests, rather than trying to regain his former job ?

I think Thaksin was shown the door in Dubai around the time some (possibly fake) muslim group issued a fatwah on his ass over his involvement in the Tak Bai killings a year or so ago ago IIRC. Dubai wouldn't want to have this kind of stink scaring away moneyed people from their little utopia.

I believe he now lives in Hong Kong.

This report below is 5 years old but I wonder just how committed Thaksin is/was to investments in Dubai and what his future holds regarding any debt obligations he has to Russian and other financiers..

Does he actually have a steady home or does he flit from Montenegro, to Hong Kong to Nicaragua??

Actually this one was not bad but the "best" one he has posted is to be found on the thread regarding the halfwit redshirt who was supposedly shot in the leg in an assassination attempt. Was so good and he lost so much face I doubt if he has posted again since. clap2.gif

Nope IMO his "best" was when he described the Dutch hard drugs policy. Straight out lies brought as facts. A topic of lesser interest in this forum of course, yet ignoring the best working policy on the matter that exists. I wonder what inspires people like this.

About Thaksin telling the red shirt leaders not to show for his birthday party:

Thai economy is about the 20th-22nd in the world. That makes Thailand an important trade partner. As now the influence of the missunderstood fugitive on Thai (red shirt) governments seems to have faded for long years to come, other countries will be less willing to provide him with a place to launch his attacks on Thailand/Thai governments. Singapore, Malaysia, Myanmar, even Cambodia seem to be off limits for him to celebrate whatever he wants to celebrate and get some press coverage.

Should the present military government or a later civilian one decide to chase him and bring him in for facing Thai justice, many countries will not be interested to harbor him. Gradually more proof or at least very strong suspicions of the guy being the criminal he is will spread. That will shorten the list of countries prepared to grant him asylum. The few billion usd he may have to spend will only help him buy his way into small countries like Montenegro or some central american countries. None of those will be a place where he wants to spend the last part of his life.

No Arab country so far has shown any lasting sympathy to non-muslim fugitives. Only if there's big profit they can stay. Very perhaps one can see the idea of "exporting" thirty thousand Thai workers to the Gulf states as an attempt by the bad guy to please his hosts? By the time he launched the plan a few years ago all the world already knew the slave-like conditions of the workers in the Gulf states. So it really seemed a bit weird he came up with an unrealistic plan like that. Perhaps a cat in despair?

By now governments in more European countries are getting reports that Thailand is changing for the better under the present government. The willingness of hosting some sort of government in exile has gone. The once admired entrepeneur and Thai pm is now seen in a changing light.

Loss of face and not being allowed back into Thailand are a heavy punishment for him. Even in circles of the very rich he will become a paria as more evidence/strong suspicions of his crimes come out.

He who wanted to be king is further away from his goal than ever. Even among his once unconditional followers support is vanishing. He has no place he can call home nor does he have a place where he can feel safe in the longer run. Celebrating his birthday with some family including lil sis will be of no comfort to him. Even without being locked up in a Thai prison his life is not satisfying. He will always have to look over his shoulder. And, smart as he is, he will know he is getting what he deserves. He is and will remain filthy rich. It is of less and lesser importance to him.
