Did a quick search of flights on Kayak.co.uk from Chiang Mai to main airports in Cambodia and was shocked to find prices around £200 for 2 weeks departing beginning of August!

I know I've left in last minute but does anyone have any suggestions of a cheaper way of getting to Cambodia even coach from Chiang Mai?

You take overnight VIP bus to Korat. From there you have connecting bus to Aranyapradet border.

Or you can go to another border ChongJom/O'Smach,from there only 2 hours by Camry to SiemRep.This border is

without any hussle, which will wait you in Aranya/Poipet.

Put Korat into gmaps and it came up with Nakhon Ratchasima, Mueang Nakhon Ratchasima District, Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand

am I on the right track? As for Aranyapradet, it couldn't fint it??

thanks anyway

1. NCA bus overnight from Chiang Mai to Surin 960 baht.

2. Surin bus station by commuter van to Chong Chom Borders Crossing 75 km, 1 hour and 60 baht.

3. At Chong Chom Crossing on the Cambodian side (O'Smach) Black top road two hour by taxi to Siem Reap 1500 baht.

4. Its a snap.

Thanks muchly smile.png

Tip.. NCA has their own terminal in Surin about 3 km from the old bus station where you pick up the Chong Chom Express. Tell the NCA steward on your bus that you want off at the old station and they will be pleased to do so.

Where in Cambodia?

If Sihanoukville it is the CM - Rayong bus, then connect to Trat and Van to the border. At the Hat/Lek Koh Kong border you will do good to have evisa/Tourist visa unless you need an 'ordinary visa.'

If to PP, you might still want to take the CM-Rayong bus bet get off the bus at Prachinburi and connect to a bus to Aran. Cambodian immigration Poipet charges 25 US for the 20 USD Tourist visa and 30 USD for the officially 25 USD ordinary visa. Thus, the tourist visa is cheaper than the evisa even with the tea money paid. Depends of course also on the number of free pages in your passport as the evisa saves you a whole page.

Be careful about the transport mafia to Siem Reap at Poipet, lots of info on the web on that. Several morning till non buses to PP and also night buses with sleeper seats.

Take the bus as you can haul a lot of stuff this way.

I think that the Poipet route to Siem Reap will be a bit cheaper and the border crossing much cheaper than Osmach to Siem Reap.

If you intend to visit the Thai Embassy in PP, Poipet is your border crossing as the Siem Reap-PP road is a mess.

Thanks guys, have decided to spend a week in Siem Reap and a week in Phnom Penh. Plan to train it to BK from CM and then to Aranyaprathet. And then finally bus from Poiphet to SR.

Found this site to be really useful, Seat61. Has feedback from travellers so seems fairly up to date.

Thanks again
