9 months in Thailand and now come back with new passport, problem? some advice?

Featured Replies

Hi! I am Italian Nationality and i was in Thailand for 9 months. 1 visa double entry got in my country (60+30, 60+30) and after that i went to Laos and got new visa (60+30). After that i came to Malaysia, because my passport just expired in 6 months and 10 days before arrive to Malaysia. Now, after 24 days i have new passport and i got 1 tourist visa in embassy in Kuala Lumpur. I want to come back Thailand by land, but i don´t know if i will have a problem in border. I have my ticket flight back home in september from Bangkok and i can show 20.000 baths and hotel booking. What can i do?? i will have some problem in the border??

Arriving by air would be safer.

Bashayed;

There is no way of anyone knowing if you will have a problem at the border.

On the pro side, you have a return flight ticket, a tourist visa, money and hotel bookings.

On the con side you have nine months of documented time in Thailand. Even though you have a new passport when they scan the passport your recent entries and exits will or should come up.

You should expect to be questioned.

What can you do? Dress appropriately, be polite, and answer all questions honestly.

Good luck.

Don´t forget to smile and tell them you are Ithailiano! lol.

Having spent over 3 weeks away could be a positive too.

According to my experience, Mario is correct. I came back from Malaysia by train one time, and I automatically got a fifteen day stamp. And, as I understand the built in pitfall, you need 21 days remaining on a visa to get an extension at Thai Immigration.

If flying is an option, I would definitely do that.

I think they shortened the land entry visa to fifteen days to automatically foil the frequent 'border-run' by land method of achieving an extended stay in the kingdom.

More about my story. I actually had a retirement extension to my visa, but the Immigration Officer at the border did not see it in my passport and just gave me a fifteen day stamp, and I was not savvy enough at the time to monitor what they were doing at the border. I ended up having to go to Thai Immigration in Bangkok and having them make a correction to the fifteen day stamp. Since that time, I know exactly where my visa stamp is in my passport, when it expires, etc.

People from G7 countries get 30 days visa exempt by either air or land. Since the OP is Italian, that would apply to him.

Currently, visa exempt entry can be extended at any time, for 7 days, once only.

Since you have a tourist visa and your previous entries were also from a visa you should have no problem entering the country.

Those turned away at the southern border all had a history of visa exempt entries and a new tourist visa.
