Your fan belt is probably slipping, when hard over the power steering hydraulic pumps extra load is making the belt slip. This is most likely because the numptys clean your engine and then spray tyre shine around to make the plastic shiny and it gets on the belt making it slip. It happened to me but I could hear it slip when cold starting. It was a bit of a bugger to clean it off but use some soapy water and clean the belt, turning it by hand as you go to get all of it. I have seen some " belt dressing" spray in home pro etc which would help if washing it doesn't work.

Or just take it back and show them what is happening, maybe they will take more care next time.

Belt - needs adjusting probably. Take about a minute and really shouldn't cost. Might be time to change all the belts....how old are they/car?

did they go under the bonnet?

You don't say what model but there are various belts and pulleys, so it is probably the one powering the power steering, but any extra load on the hydraulic system good cause a belt to squeak.

this is not an expensive repair.

Thanks all, Car is Nissan NV and I just renewed both belts so will take back there for adjustments.

I think it had something to do with the car wash as I did ask them to clean engine......big mistake
