Commonwealth Games Scottie dogs 'disrespectful to Muslims'

Report in today's Daily Telegraph:

Malaysian politicians and religious leaders have attacked the use of Scottie dogs during the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony, claiming it was disrespectful to Muslims.

I'd like to think that this was a wind-up. Can someone please tell if these people are for real. Do the World's Muslims really want our sympathy and understanding or are they deliberately trying to incite hatred?

Please don't turn this thread into a Muslim bashing thread - I really would like to know what the majority of Muslims think. Malaysia is reportedly one the benign Muslim countries and yet they come out with statements like this. This is highly disrespectful to the Scottish people and just remember what happened to the terrorists who tried to explode bombs at Glasgow airport - perhaps not a nation that you want to be disrespectful to?
