BUT:  if he was operating in a ZONE for swimmers,,,  then isnt it PRETTY OBVIOUS ??? !!!!

i mean:  the "so called" Port Authority would SEE HIM in an illegal area....  as well as the DAILY PASSING POLICE !!!

I also see Policemen REGULARLY HARASSING STREET SELLERS and bars (and cars and bikes)for their licence,,,

i am pretty sure that the Police would check licences from Boat operators too, no?

(deleted)

either way,, it is negligent that the Port Authority turns a BLIND EYE to boat operators who are using an illegal zone for swimmers.

surely the Port Authority should be slapped on the wrist too during this investigation !!

the reason is pretty obvious, but we cant post what it is here

Jet ski rentals should be licensed and have proof of insurance.

The people who rent should also need to show some sort of licence (ha, I know, TIT).

These people are as dangerous as any unlicensed driver on the road.

The only answer to the jetski problem is to make it law for the rental to include insurance or to just ban them altogether.

That is a good idea, why isn't this happening?

I haven't been to pattaya for about ten years now, and I witnessed this scam happen to a lad and yes, the policeman did make his appearance and the you lad was followed to the cash point machine by the renter. It is beyond me that people still visit pattaya and are oblivious to this scam, even if they don't read about it on the internet before their holiday. They must see it going on when they are on the beach before they decide to rent the jet ski. I am I no way condoning what these jet ski renters do. But I think after all these years. Anyone who gets caught out by this scam have only themselves to blame. After all, no bar girl is going to be impressed by being sat on the back of one of these machines and driven round by some Viagra fueled idiot she would much rather they just handed her the cash instead of wasting it on a jet ski

I thought these Jetski scammer should have insurance for their jetski to avoid scams...then again it goes on and on and onthumbsup.gif thumbsup.gif

I would also like to know why he hired them out, in an area that had submerged rocks, also, why they were not marked and were the Chinese couple warned about them. If jet skis are hired out, then it is the responsibility of the owner to warn customers and/or not hire in an area with potentially dangerous submerged objects. If I was an insurance company, I would not pay out because the owner has been negligent.

Exactly what I was thinking. Shouldn't have needed to pay anything. The operator should be charged for negligence.

Does the jetski mafia still operates from opposite Mikes ? My impression was that they've been forced to leave after the junta took over.

Sent from my SM-P601 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

one last try, yes it is still going on as it always was, and members of a certain institution that apparently I cant mention are usually in attendance

Hold on it's only a scam if they did not do the damage and the damage was old damage

If they really hit a rock then it is up to the owner the cost

That is not a scam if they really did the damage

it is a scam if they overcharge for repairing the damage, and also most people dont realize that their are rocks under the water down that end of the beach, the operators should have warned them, in fact most likely the operators waved then in to that part of the beach in the hope they would hit the rocks.

but 90% of the scams are straight out scams, there is media censorship in Pattaya and Thailand so you dont hear much about them and who is collecting the money from them

Nice to see... couple not overly ripped off / scammed

But I do not believe any more actions will be taken re: jet ski operator.

I have watched and listened to many operators on Pattaya beach extorting monies, albeit amounts slightly reduced wit BiB present.

TIT..

To visitors self education on environment and any activities to be undertaken is always wise.

Hopefully some of these post's will pop up if visitor's conduct online search's and provide history to event's.

They did this in another country...

They had to display their license and Insurance or they were fined and then shut down.

As i said before. Anyone who still persists in renting one of these things deserves everything that happens to them. It is not like this has not been all over the internet for the last 10 years.

Good reaction to call the port authorities ! But as the chinese tourists (who don't seem to know about this scam) are remplacing as customers the farang who know it well now, thai scumbags scammers try to catch new customers who don't know yet it !

Just hope this will be told in China as all tourists won't fall in the jet ski scam ! If all knew it this scam would already be stopped as it would have no more people to fall in it !

That really wasn't one of the scams, that was just asking an excessive amount.  The scammers will do things like put a sticker over some damage which would come off in the water or as they push the boat in the water they pull of a cover which the previously removed the bolts.  They use the same damage many times on many different people.

Many of the assumed scams are with people who have actually done damage and don't have the money to pay.  Usually the operators will start with a high price but that can be reduced after awhile, some will try to intimidate though.  Believe it or not there are some honest operators out there.

Yeh, the Swedes are pretty honest; but the Baltic aint 'arf cold mum!

The Junta have very quickly stopped the crazy food prices on HuaHins  beaches, which was of course involving  Thais and their love of eating so of national importance.

However the jetski scam involving thousands of baht, violence, corrupt men wearing tight dark clothing etc and bad publicity worldwide .............albeit involving mainly non thais victims....................doesn't seem to have been given the same level of importance?

Just how powerful are the benificiaries that the scam can still continue?

I believe the mafia behind pattaya is way more powerful and harder to crack. See stern action taken in Phuket and Hua Hin, but no action in pattaya

I wonder if it will ever be resolved? a couple of years back I dared to ask on a Pattaya farang forum, why the western volunteer force in too tight uniforms with their own telephone number and shiny cars were impotent in dealing with the problem? and didn't they feel like frauds cruising around the place as the saviour, mediators for westerners in distress.....................but walking away from such a blatant exploitation of the very people they volunteered to help who are clearly in desperate need of honest help....................yes dial 1*** if in trouble but don't bother if its because you are being robbed or assaulted by thai nationals having rented a jet skis!

Of course after being banned from the forum for asking such a question...................further digging revealed they were under instruction not to get involved!! and maybe that is still the case? sad really because Im sure these guys generally do a sterling job.

Maybe the NCPO could be presented with all the evidence and asked for a response! or would the Mayor say he has dealt with it already......................

rant over! .................and since prostitution is illegal here maybe the NCPO could also address the shameful practice of girls offering happy endings when going for a massage, its so distressingwhistling.gif
