i cannt belive how many people concerned over dead cat i have killed100s in oz as they destroy all wildlife

the house nextdoor had 1cat now 6 just waiting till one comes into my yard will get the back end of a shovel across head

i wish people would be more concerned about fellow human than a pussy some dogs want fo play with

a cat would be cruelest of all animal always slowly kill there prey

We had a Thai neighbour that had 13 cats at one point, none of them desexed, when people (even the Thais) complained, she said " cats have a right to live too". Eventually they were either killed or removed by residents, enough is enough.

I don't pay for this. I'd tell the cat owner that she's lucky the dog didn't choke on the cat and that normally your clean up fee is more than 10,000 baht, so best they call it quits before you get out your calculator.

You have to be careful that someone doesn't throw some poisoned meat over your wall so I would let your GF go and talk to them and ask them to prove it was their cat.

Do they have a pic? 10k is way too much but if you don't ask you don't get.

If it really was their cat offer to buy them a nice cat of their choosing and give them one of those baskets full of food they sell in the supermarkets or a bottle of scotch. I doubt their cat was a pedigree.

It's also about what will happen if another neighbor's cat goes into the yard, or (God forbid) one of the neighbor kids goes into his yard to retrieve a ball that went over the fence. Because I can guaranty you that the neighbors are discussing that right now.

There's discord in the community, and that's handled different in the East than in the West. Strange thing is, the cat's owner won't even be the one that poisons the OP's dogs. It'll be one of the other neighbors.

It just surprises me how relatively successful farang with decades of life experience can come to Thailand and lose all perspective so easily.

A cat goes into a yard where there are dogs? I have to doubt the entire post, however for the sake of conversation-
The point where you did not take responsibility for an animal being attacked on your property, at hands of your dogs is where you go wrong.

Get the dogs away from it, spare it the " two ,three... ten minutes" of continued attack.

Decapitation or breaking the neck is an excellent and safe for you emergency euthanasia if the animal is that " far gone". Every one has a large knife in their kitchen, just whack it on the neck

"Gone too far.." indicates prone and motionless, so no danger to you.

And sounds to me you did allow it to be a chew toy for two or three minutes or was it four or five? You mention ten minutes, too.

However dogs usually immediately just shake a cat and break it's neck. I have had several die this way from neighborhood packs and one pet dog, ( who then went bye bye ) .

" Too far gone..to help..." you are simply avoiding dealing with it.

I think throwing it it the garbage is a bit irresponsible too. You might have asked around first if it was someone's pet.

You may well have brought on the demise of your dogs, and poisoning is a horrid way to go for them.

Your point about cats going into yards where there are dogs, I would disagree. We have two dogs and almost every evening we have cats around the house. Fair enough, the dogs are inside some of the time.

Buut, I am sure in their animal kingdom understanding, the cats know they are dead if the dogs ever get them. They are two fully grown Siberians with an extremely high prey drive. Anything small and furry is fair game to them. No problem with humans or other dogs, but small and furry? Gerbils, rats, you name it.............. alt=rolleyes.gif>

In fact, recently I have had to put them on a lead in the park where they used to free-roam because they nearly had a little girl's rabbit, that she had out for a walk on a lead! True story.

To my surprise my dog shares his food with birds, watching them when they finish his food. Sometimes he is just 30 cm away from them.

But cats are another story......

Usually a cat that isn't complete degenerated doesn't go close to dogs, is way faster and can climb. But I can catch these overfeed cats of some neighbors....

Same with us, seems like feathers aren't a problem around the house, just small furry things....................

Your an idiot, you've just basically shown your dog its OK to savage other animals by letting them kill it.

You've taught your dog nothing and shown no discipline , also I assume you are not a vet? was you able to diagnose the condition of the cat? I doubt it. Anyway if you had any sense you would have taken the cat to the vets and immediately shown the dogs it was wrong to do that so they wont do it again, now your dogs think its ok to savage other animals and possibly humans. It`s people like you that make dogs into savages.

Get rid of your dogs and give them to a responsible owner, when you learn how to look after and teach your animals right from wrong you could look at getting a pet.

You seem to be one of those people that think animals follow the stupidity of human society.

Just for information, they don't.

I'm not saying that you are right or wrong OP, these things happen and Thai's do seize a window of opportunity.

I'm not sure how you can prove or disprove whose cat it was, but my guess is you are on a loser if you don't try and settle this somehow.

The loser would be, a constant fear for the dogs being harmed as another poster said maybe poisoned.

The other personal, something could happen to you or a member of your family. You won't see it coming and you won't know who is responsible.

Get it sorted amicably if possible.

Paying something when it's not your fault, smarts.

Dead dogs or personal injury will smart even more.

Think if it was obvious the cat was a goner (and even as a non vet - it can be obvious!) I would have taken it away from the at the first instance and, if it was as bad as I feared (it may looked worse whilst being attacked) I would have euthanised it myself (break the neck or strangle). Not nice to do of course, but better than to leave it as a dog toy - both in terms of suffering and in teaching the dogs.

Is it possible the cat fell into the compound - they do fall from walls and fences sometimes?

As to the 10k, get the wife to sort it. Offer to replace the cat and forgive the vet costs incurred to your animals by the invading cat - makes for friendlier neighbours, you are always at their mercy being a foreigner here - and your dogs are easy prey for direct revenge (even if they have been trained not to take from strangers - as I always train my dogs - they may still eat a titbit they find laying around when no one is about, that may have been thrown in laced!)

Whether to put the cat down or try to take it to a Vet was the owners choice not the OP. That could be why the price is so high. If you knew who the cat belonged to just dumping it in the trash is disrespectful. Would you want your dog's treated the same? .

The fact that the dogs have tasted blood and feeling of kill, also does not bother him and clearly does not bother you.
