Hi,

My daughter is 1 month old and her birth will be registered with the UK authorities at the end of this month. Her mother is Thai and is currently on a 2-year visa to the UK. Mother and daughter plan to visit Thailand in December for 2 months to see her Thai family and will return after 2 months. I have been advised by other members of Thaivisa to register my daughters birth with the Thai embassy in the UK so that she may obtain a Thai passport as well as her British one, which should allow her to stay for the 2 months in Thailand described above and be used in the future.

My question is how do I go about registering my daughters birth at the RTE and obtain a passport for her? Do I need to book an appointment or is it a walk -n service? What documents do my wife and I need to provide? How long does this process normally take?

FYI I have visited the RTE website and called to obtain info but with no success so far. Many thanks for any advise.

The Royal Thai Embassy prefers that you make an appointment. The baby has to attend in person, preferably with both parents, with the required documentation. Photograph and fingerprint (or toeprint) will have to be taken on site for the passport. The application will take around six weeks to process.

The Embassy has promised to update its passport information webpages from Thai into English but are still working on it. In the meantime, for an idea of what's needed in English, see US version: Thai Birth Certificate, Passport.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I managed to speak to someone at the RTE yesterday afternoon (one can speak to an adviser between 2pm and 4pm) and have booked in an appointment to register the birth. I need to bring originals and two copies of my passport, wife's passport and ID card, marriage certificate and birth certificate.
