Iguana At Khao Toh-Sae

Featured Replies

Where did it come from?

Anyone know if the Bangla Road touts are still plying their "Want a photo with my iguana" trade?

This one was seen near the top of Toh-Sae hill - about 200 metres down. After my video-shoot, a lady apparently picked it up and took it down to the drink seller guy opposite the top-most viewpoint because the local dogs were getting very interested in it. Lord knows what he did with it.

I also learned that the Finlayson Squirrel has now disappeared, and assumed to be someone's caged pet. dry.png

Oh dear.... wifey just informed me that Iguana is very tasty and expensive to buy! Obviously you didn't know this (same for me until a couple of minutes ago!), but there is the distinct possibility that the poor iguana was destined for the cooking pot. A friend of mine who had a pet shop (Thai) was given an iguana by an English guy who was going back home, and he ended up selling it for around 4/5,000 baht to another felang who wanted it as a pet. I don't think they are native to Thailand tho, and not sure if wifey is getting it mixed up with the monitor (type) lizard they have here in Thailand. Either way, I can't see a Thai person being too interested in keeping an iguana as a pet (bit racist that really I suppose!).
