So I've been in the Kingdom since 7th July 2014 (first time) on a single entry tourist visa I got from LAOS. My visa expires on the 7th September, but I've been told I can get a 30 day extension stamp which brings it upto 3 months in total. I was originally then going to apply for a Thai student visa and study thai as it was 4 hours a week. Today a notification email came through that people studying in Thailand will have to study 8hrs a week instead, which is too much.

I run an online company which I have to maintain on a daily basis and going to school 4 days a week will make this impossible. I have a condo here which has a year lease and I would like some advice in regards to what I should do or what visa I can apply for.

Thanks.

You can extend your tourist visa for 30 days. Once expired you can get again double-entry in Laos and few other places, but it may be hard to do that in the long term.

To get 90 days extension for reason of studying, beside whatever minimum hours will be required/enforced, you need to have entered with a non-immigrant visa in first place, but that is not you case.

Beside the above, and getting Thai elite card for 500,000 thb, there are no other clear and legal choices.

There is no digital nomad visa.

He may be referring to the Thailand Elite 5 year EP visa that costs 500k baht that give multiple one year entries.

The 8 hours has not been confirmed yet for all of Thailand at the moment it is only Bangkok.

You can get a 30 day extension of your 60 day entry.

Thanks Paz so once this visa is expired after the 30 day extension. I can leave the country again and apply for a double entry visa which will give me an extra 90 days? I am only here until june 2015 as that is when the lease for my condo ends.

No, your visa were cancelled when you arrived in Thailand. Your permission to stay probably ends on 4th of September (check the stamp you got when you arrived in Thailand), so make sure that you leave Thailand or get an extension before that date.

Double would give you up to 180 days in country with one border hop to activate 2nd entry.

Okay, now I am confused. Sophon said that my visa has already expired and that I will need to leave the country in September to get a new one. However, Paz is saying I can get a double entry when my visa expires in October 2014 after my 30 day extension stamp from Thai immigration.

Read in full, Sophon also mentioned that you can get an extension. That is the next action you'll need to take.

I think a lot will depend on your previous entries and exits, you state you entered Thailand from LAOS on a single entry tourist visa - how did you get to LAOS, I assume from Thailand, you also said you have a year lease on a condo, this would lend me to thinking your OP has excluded a lot of information that would affect your options for a long stay in Thailand

I would tend to believe that if someone is staying in Thailand on Tourist or VOA for longer than 180 days in any 12 months they are going to have problems - JMO

July & Aug both have 31 days - your tourist visa is for 60 days not 2 months - your arrival date is your 1st day - hence an arrival on July 7th should have a Sept 4th stamp. You will need to get your 30 extension approved by Sept 4th.

Ubonjoe is one of the experts who's advice is reliable. I'm sure he will appreciate your "idiot" comment.

However, with the intense scrutiny by immigration of tourist visas - renting a condo for a year and running a business online is not something a tourist would do nor should mention - but since you already have mentioned these issues a moderator might considered this thread as discussing an illegal activity.coffee1.gif

You can bet the Immigration Officers/Army personnel  who monitor this forum will now be checking the records from July 7 to see just who the poster is.  gees OP, your first name isn't Oliver is it?  From UK?  via Laos?  hmmmm

Don't laugh... Posts like this (and countless others) only point out the sheer numbers of scofflaws, no doubt in thousands, who are willing to take any steps to work here illegally.

Looks like it's time for more crack downs on anyone who is a "tourist" for more than 30 days and have a look at those lame ED requirements, too.

Can't they see?  They are bringing this on themselves with the continuous p*ss-taking and exploitation of Thai visas that are offered by the Kingdom in good faith.

'nuff said

Offered in good faith, or with a decent under the counter envelope.

There is a difference you know.

Has no one ever noticed all the adverts on here even now, for retirement visa with no money in the bank etc etc.

I originally flew over here on a 30 day stamp and then left the country to goto LAOS. I then got a single entry visa in LAOS and returned to Thailand. I am not trying to do anything illegal at all. I do run an online freelance business where I get money abroad not from Thailand to make a living (like a lot of people who live in Thailand). If my only other option is to study 8hrs a week to stay in Thailand than so be it. I can't afford the elite pass if I could I would get one. I did want to study Thai and try and fit in with the local community more, but bringing it upto 8hrs a week is what caused the problem. However if this is the only way I can stay in the Kingdom until Jun 2015 then so be it.

I called the guy an idiot before because I came on this forum generally looking for advice. Nothing harmful in my post and he posted a completely fake visa. Obviously I didn't know that it was fake at the time so I was curious about it which made me look an idiot because it doesn't exist.

Incredibly not 3 days ago I saw a prominent one from a FB user with a Property Company here offering the same services for 20,000 Baht no questions asked.

When I tactfully pointed out that anyone could be reading that post he promptly removed it.  The naivety of some people is astonishing and people apparently well connected at that....

Bertty, the adverts you see are generally displayed through your own browsing history.

I posted the Digital Nomad Visa as a joke because there are thousands of people in your situation making money online but as far as Thailand is concerned you are working.

They are not on your back for tax but they want to know what you are doing. Saying I work online is a broad spectrum from kiddie porn to drugs to selling Bibles.

They want to know what you are doing that's why they want you to have a work permit. Even with an Elite card or ED Visa you are working illegally but the chance of getting caught is slim.

You pays your money and takes your chance.

I just do online PR so nothing out of the ordinary. I just want to legally stay in Thailand and see out the contract for my condo. After I get my stamp can I leave the country in October and get a double entry visa from Laos? Sorry for calling you an idiot ATF. I was just stressing out about the whole situation.

Do yourself a favor and contact some of the visa services on TV. They will be able to sort you out but of course you will pay extra. 25k for an ED Visa or maybe a Non-Imm B Visa, both should be valid for one year. I've always found this to be the easiest solution rather than messing around in Immigration.

I recommend you don't go down the route of obtaining fraudulent paperwork to support visa applications for which otherwise your do not qualify for, especially ED visa.

Not only you can find yourself unable to use them anyway, you may also be prosecuted. It has already happened in the past.
