Hello,

I understand there have been threads about this, but they rather old so i thought i would start a new one.  Not to mention, there have been recent changes to the drivers license and i was wondering if that may affect changing froma 1 year to 5 year as well.

Anyway, what documents are required to change froma 1 year to 5 year license?  Do i need to get another residency certificate like before? Do i need a medical certificate again?

What tests do we have to do again?

Thanks for any help.smile.png

There are several threads scattered around, and I doubt the information has changed very much.

It may depend on where you are applying. I applied in Bangkok near the Mo Chit BTS stop for a Car and Motorcycle License. I did take a residence certificate from my Embassy, they accepted a copy for the second license, medical certificate and copy, old licenses, copy of passport, visa, and entry card, etc. No extra tests, just the usual vision, reaction stuff, and we sat in a room watching a video. Easy and straight forward.

It all depends - which DLT centre he is using and who is working that day biggrin.png

Pattaya 3 weeks ago -

Registration cert from Immigration

Medical cert

Copy passport detail page, TM6 and last entry stamp, and visa page (need 1 year extension or other type of one year visa to get a 5 year licence)

Copy both sides of licence

If renewing car and bike one original and one copy of Imm Cert and med cert ok. make sure two copies of others.

When I was there (around 2pm) only colour chart and brake reaction test - did not use depth perception. No video.

I did my one year to five years last week in Bangkok at the Sukhumvit location. I got my residence certificate from Immigration and they said three week to receive it in the mail and it was delivered one day short of two weeks I believe I paid 300 baht for it. I did find out that when you get it from Immigration you have to go upstairs at the drivers license office and get it certified which I thought was weird. So it put me back a ways in the queue line. I didn't have to watch a video, just the vision and reaction tests. I agree with the beechguy on the documents needed. The license was 605 baht. I spent a total of almost four and a half hours there, so allow yourself time.
