Chiang Mai and Lamphun residents protest against the setting up of superstores

Villagers in Chiang Mai and Lamphun voice objection to the construction of Tesco Lotus and Big C superstores in their districts.

Representatives of the villagers from Chom Thong (จอมทอง), Hod (ฮอด) and Mae Taeng (แม่แตง) in Chiang Mai and some districts in Lamphun handed a protest letter to Wuthipong Wiboonwong (วุฒิพงศ์ วิบูลย์วงศ์), director-general of the State Attorney Region 5 yesterday.

The villagers said they are concerned about effects on local groceries already facing a business slowdown.

Mr. Wuthipong pledged help and said he will talk with representatives of the two superstores to find solutions.

Judaism: why does this shit always happen to us?

Atheism: I don't believe this shit

They protested in Phuket too, before Lotus-Tesco and Big C opened, citing the same concerns.

Result? Nothing. The super-stores opened anyway.
