Sin Sod when parents have passed away

After 6 years of relationship I will take my girl as my wife. That marriage visa simply is the only option for me.

The parents of her have passed away before I even knew her...and her family has so far not approached me with regards of making any payment. Is it normal to pay the family a dowry when the parents don´t live anymore?

I can't see how the family could claim sinsod. Sinsod is essentially paying the parents for raising the child. Although I detest the notion of paying sinsod. I was not asked when I married my wife, she agrees its outdated and not relevant .

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding.

No sin sod is required. If your wife to be doesn't yet have a car buy her one. If you can't afford a car, buy her a new motorbike. Sin sod is all about face. Give her some. You can even buy her a big gold chain and then sell it back to the goldsmith after the wedding. Give her something to show.

note: you can drive the motorbike or car you bought for her after the wedding. :-)

Strange how these kids are nowhere to be seen until after the wedding and family home has been built.

I know a guy who walked out the door and now lives on his own in Pattaya.

He inherited a worthless daughter in law who moved in complete with waste of space boyfriend and their child.

Instead of only having himself and mrs to support he was now expected to play happy extended family.

Luckily he was only taken for wedding and divorce costs, the dozy cow should have waited for the farang mansion to be built before moving the others in.

I don´t think that she has family in the rural area. Its strange that people automatically assume that every Thai bride has to be a "poor Isaan village girl".

Dodging the ceremony sounds unlikely thou...I will rent some place in Bangkok I suppose. I would grant any western girl a wedding ceremony...so why wouldn't I do that with my Thai girl? I don´t enjoy these occasions very much myself....but gotta sit it out.

The only condition I have is that I am not gonna wear one of those traditional Thai costumes. I wear a suit and thats it!

My advice..........doesn't matter if they ask for sin sod or not.

You give, and you give generously, at least 2 to 3 million.

Build a house, buy a car and get some cows, so her status in community will stand high.

Don't be a cheap Charlie and never believe these dubious posters that have some experience in life.
