Tourist visa worries with winter holiday

Featured Replies

We are an elderly German/Italian couple (55+65 yrs.) and have 'history' of the past 10 years spending about 4 winter months in Thailand with a double entry tourist visa (which we are obtaining in Italy) doing either visa-runs to Ranong /(done in one day) or 10 day trips to Laos (land crossing).

The remainng 8 months we are spending in Italy.

We are 'real' tourists and have proof of hotel bookings. Reading all these post regading people who have been refused to reenter, we are getting worried.

We are planning this year's Holiday already and are planning to stay 60 days in Southern Thailand then do a 10 day trip to Laos (reentry Thakhek friendship bridge) and then stay another 56 days.

Would we encounter problems to reenter?

Thanks for any ideas.

No, get a double entry tourist visa just before you leave for Thailand and you should have no problem. It is obvious you are genuine tourists and not living permanently in Thailand.

You will have no problem making your trip.

There are no changes if you have a tourist visa.

Sorry for the late reply saying thanks so much for all your help.

I am still wondering though if immigration wants to see 20.000 Bt.per person ?

Would an equivalent amount in EURO be OK as we don't want to travel around in Laos with 40000 Bt. in cash.

Thanks so much.

You will in all likelyhood not be asked to show finances.

It is OK to carry the amount in any currency you prefer.

Thanks so much for your reply. We will go in about two weeks from now and then see what happens.

Thee have been no recent report of a Lao border crossing asking to see funds.

The same for Ranong.

Just to let you all know. We have done the 2nd entry (with tourist visa) after a two week stay in Laos at the Thakhek/Nakhon Phanom Friendship bridge without any problem. No questions asked. Very quick and friendly service. Actually us two were the only westerners and just a few Asians. Not being asked for funds or anything. Just: wish you a nice Holiday.

What a relieve !!
