Hi,

I am here now on a tourist visa that I got upon arrival (30) days. My stay here has been more fun then I thought and I booked my return ticket for September 18th, I arrived on August 5th.

I did check beforehand and as I understood it I would be able to extend my stay with 30 days, providing I had 20000 thb and willing to pay 1900thb for the extension.

I walked into the local immigration office and they said I can only do that in Bangkok or fly out and back in, it is not about money, but I am 900km from Bangkok and I don't want to waste my time going there, neither do I feel the need/urge to fly out only to fly back in again. Overstay is not an option as I want to keep everything legit.

Does anyone have a suggestion? Should my local immigration office not be able to do this?

Please help me understand these new rules...

You did not get a tourist visa on arrival you got a visa exempt entry. At the moment the only extension possible is 7 days.

But if you can wait until on or after the 29th of this month you will be able to get a 30 day extension of your exempt entry.

Sorry, I forgot...

I live in NakhonSriThammarat, South Thailand...

Sure I can wait, my exit has to be September 3/4...

I asked about the extension for 30 days that will come on August 29th, but the guy was grumpy and little forthcoming - will that be from every immigration office? I would love to go there and lay down the law for them, if it was in Thai writing from the top dogs...

The new regulation is available already, in Thai, on the Immigration website. However you would have nothing to gain (actually the opposite) going to show it to them now. You will have to wait for the 29th, or the immediately following days.

Can it be done at any immigration office in Thailand?

Yes. You will need to apply with an address that is local to the office, hotel is acceptable.

Thanks Paz,

Went down to the local immigration today, got my extension. They were updated on new rules and stamped me first until October 30th, then corrected it to October 3rd... Still, the only complaint I have is that they have to use a full page as they did with my yearly visa...

Extensions do not need to take a full page - I have two per page in my passport.

Depends of the officer and stamp used. In some cases there is just some space left for small stamps on the same page.
