The worst dental visit imaginable.

I'm as in love with DDS as you I've been most happy with Tooth Town next to the Rawai Postal Office

Yeah they were booked out. ironically they were the ones that missed the initial cavity which lead to me losing this tooth. I had a cleaning and a check-up there with no cavities found, then not 3 months later a massive cavity already below the gum line and with only 70% chance of a successful crown.

Next time for an x Ray

I had a moler pulled in Suphanburi and the beautiful gal that was tugging on it was not going to quit until she had her prize. That big boy was so firmly entrenched she literally had to straddle me wh

Firstly, if I know that I will have work done in my mouth I make sure I don't have an infection. Secondly, I always inform the dentist that I request the injection at least 15 minutes before the procedure. I have been known to get 4-5 injections to reduce any chance of experiencing pain. The other important thing to remember is to first agree that if you experience any amount of pain, you will raise your hand and the dentist will stop. I have also learned long ago that if I care to have a tooth extracted, I go to a doctor that either specializes in these type procedures or question any new dentist on their experience in tooth extraction. Once when I was younger I had a very good dentist but he was a much older gentleman and during the procedure he asked me to help pull my own molar. After that I learned my lesson quickly and never to be repeated. Pulling a tooth should be your last choice. Do a root canal, and have the tooth capped or crowned. Once you remove a tooth, you have a hole in your mouth where you cannot chew properly. Sometimes it's better to spend the extra money and do the right thing and keep your tooth. Good luck and get it fixed quickly. You do not want to get a dry socket where the tooth has been partially removed. Get it corrected today.

Haven't been to a dentist in 25 years , you just remended me why.

Scare the bejesus outta me

I followed that plan (cause I, too, just can't stand the dentist's chair), and ended up turning what would probably have just been a routine filling years ago into a root canal, crown, retreatment of the tooth, a gum surgery, re-crown, and re-crown again. I'll be lucky if the tooth doesn't eventually have to just be removed and replaced with an implant. I have to say I now regret my many missed checkups. It was beyond foolish.

If the chair bothers you that much (and I doubt anyone could sympathize more than I do), pay the money for whatever sedation you require, but don't just skip it.

I had a good experience at the Nong Sung hospital. Not crowded. I was surprised they would even treat a foreigner. About 200 baht to clean my teeth by the dentist and 2 weeks later they filled my tooth for 300 Baht. No problems. The equipment was not as modern but the standard of care was very good.

I like dentists and have had many visits and very professional ( from presidents of the local Dentist Association ) treatment. I believe I have partially payed for a few Mercedes in my home country.

Because it was so inexpensive , next time I will try the private clinic in Mukdahan. Curious.

Thanks for the info OP.

If I ever decide I need a tooth out in LOS I will go for a soapy and take the pliers with me.

Avoid 'clinics' with fancy advertising that hire inexperienced dentists who work on a commission basis.

In my experience of 45 year here clinics/hospitals setting is where you will find specialist dental care We do not have specialists working in a medical building in there own practice with recommendations from others as found there - here the specialists will be working in a group and that will most likely be a large clinic type setting. But if indeed the clinic was operating as a factory with inexperienced dentists on a commission basis would be in agreement - it is just not my experience that this is normally the case here - as clinics are not the low cost option that you find them to be in the USA.

Hey Joe (my Jimi Hendrix reference for the day),

I've PM'd you regarding the dentist I believe you are referring to, and for the basics they do a good job, cleanings. They did ask if I wanted them to remove a wisdom tooth that I needed to have extracted, and I declined. Had it done at Bangkok Phuket Hospital's Dental Center, didn't feel a thing. I even asked the dentist, it's out already?

Sort of like asking for Thai food at an Italian restaurant, they might have some but it's crap, shoulda ordered Italian. Know where you are and how to proceed.
