Fourth army region commander expected to be moved to Bangkok

Fourth-army-region-commander-expected-to

BANGKOK: -- Commander of the Fourth Army Region Lt-Gen Walit Rojanapakdi is likely to be transferred back from the southern region to Bangkok to assume the post of the deputy chief-of-staff of the armed forces with the rank of a full general.

Replacing Lt-Gen Walit as the new commander of the Fourth Army Region is Maj-Gen Prakarn Cholayuth, deputy commander of the northern-based Third Army Region.

Maj-Gen Prakarn used to be the deputy commander of the Fourth Army Region and he was widely recognized by officials and the people alike in the three southernmost provinces.

Lt-Gen Walit has been the commander of the Fourth Army Region for only six months.

The most challenging task of the commander of the Fourth Army Region is the war of insurgency waged by the various separatist groups against the government and the civilian population.

More than 5,000 have died and may more injured during the insurgency war which started in January 2004.
