Been trying to get through to the Thai customer service to check this, always busy, so thought I'd ask here.

According to the Star Alliancee Award Chart you need 80,000 points for a round trip Bangkok-Europe-Bangkok.

I want to travel to Barcelona, so if I fly Lufthansa on the route Bangkok-Frankfurt-Barcelona (return) will it still be 80,000 points? Or do you need more points for the Frankfurt-Barcelona leg (even though it's part of the trip to Barcelona).

a much better place to ask this+much more is a dedicated forum like flyetalk.com-it will also have many who know much more.

It IS possible-and there might even be a free stopover, if so liked in FRA or MUC. BUT in general you are then dependent on availability of ''free'' seats on LH-and they are very sparse. Austrian and Swiss are also *** so could also be used, or even LOT-Polish or SK=Scandin.

TH itself flies to MAD-direct-then either fly or HiSpeedtrain. Maybe they have slightly lower TH-only rates, or lower taes.

You can-on ***-rates- also combine TH+ another **, via whatever transit, I guess TH might even have codeshares to BCN. TH mostly has far better award-availabilty. Simply check their planner to see what shows up for that.

I would call LH in Bangkok and book it through them. No reason to deal with TG since they don't do the booking or debiting of the miles. Have found the people there to be most accommodating and better informed than TG

With 80.000 miles I suppose that you're a Gold member, so you could redeem for 50% on Thai once a year, even for a nominee. I took one for my GF, was 35K miles return and ~14K tax. Anyway Lufthansa/Swiss office is in Asoke tower, 19floor if my mind serves me well.
