Malaysia arrest Thai Musim militant responsible for teacher murder

BANGKOK: -- Malaysian security troops have arrested a Thai Muslim militant in Kelantan State and seized several assault rifles stolen from slain Thai police.

The militant was responsible for the shooting of a Thai female teacher to death and then fled to Malaysia.

Col Pramote Prom-in, spokesman of the Forward Command of the Internal Security Operation Command, said the arrest of the militant was notified by Malaysian security officials to Thai security officials yesterday.

The militant was identified as Isbuloh Sani, 25, a core commanding member of the Muslim militants fighting the Thai authorities in the South.

The spokesman said Malaysian security officials arrested him at a house near the Kuala Jambo pier in Kelantan, opposite Thailand’s Ban Kolota in Tak Bai district of Narathiwat province. He fled after shooting Mrs Somsri Tanyakaset, a female teacher at Ban Kok Bueba in Tak Bai on March 20 this year.

Seized from the home included two M-16, HK and a AK 47 assault rifles. All the four assault rifles were stolen from police in Tak Bai who was shot dead on June 28 this year.

The spokesman said that since Thailand and Malaysian has no extradition treaty, the wanted militant will stand trial in Malaysia.
