Selling Car on tourist visa? (had O when I bought it)

Featured Replies

Hey All

Long story short, I bought a car when I was on an O visa with a work permit to accompany it. - we missed our signing date, had a BIG fine from immigration and now need to leave country within 30 day tourist visa.

Question is: will I have any problems selling my car (and bike) as I was on O visa with work permit, but now just a tourist visa?

I still have my work permit (valid until Dec) but I guess it's useless without the accompanying O visa.

Anyone have any experience or advice on this?

Many thanks,

Mal

I've sent you a PM.

You should have no problem if you obtain the usual letter from Immigration confirming your address in LOS.

Yup, certificate of residency from immigration, though I'm not sure you can get one with a tourist visa and they will certainly want to see a lease with owners ID and TB signed and dated

If you can't get one there then get one from your Embassy/Consulate, more expensive but least hassle.

My Thai colleague just called the LTO to check for me and they said I just need to show my current (tourist) visa! (no immigration letter)

Yes, could easily be. For buying the address cert is required by all DLT's, for selling by most but not all. Cert of address can by some immigration offices be obtained with visa exempt, but not by all. So any recommendation/advice here can be real tricky.

Typically,

The buyer needs more documentation:

Copy of valid passport

Copy of valid visa

Certification of residency

The seller needs less:

Copy of valid passport

Copy of 'valid' visa, i.e. not expired.

I just sold my old Nissan Cefiro to a private party here in Korat and needed a Letter of Residency from Thai Immigration to sell it.
