Mukdahan Information

Hello guys and girls!

I would like any information you can give me on Mukdahan please.

I will be moving there with my fiance at the end of the month and am unsure on the best way to find a home (to rent) and a job etc etc..

I have one year's teaching experience, a degree and tefl certificate so hopefully I would be able to find work within a teaching agency. I have looked online but cannot find much information about the area.

Thank you so much for any help you can give me!

Duff01, the time of year to look for a teaching job is in March or April when the schools are hiring for the beginning of the school year, which starts in May. However the second term starts in November and there is some movement then, so next month you might find something. In Mukdahan the schools that hire English teachers are Mukdahan School, and the Princess School, just outside of Mukdahan, both are high schools, and then there is Anuban Mukdahan School, a public school. There may be more, but I don't know of any. I would suggest you go the schools with your resume the beginning of next month, they close on Oct. 10 for holliday. If there is nothing available go again in March. For housing be patient and ask around, get your fiance to look around, something will turn up, you should be able to get a fairly nice house in the ฿3,000 to ฿6,000 range. I am assuming you will be in Mukdahan city, if in the west of Mukdahan, you might want to consider staying at Thai House Guest House, Google Thaihouse Mukdahan, it is in Nong Sung, until you find a house, David and Noi, who own the place, are quite friendly, and helpful.

Thank you so much for all that information George, that will help me greatly.

Have you much experience of Mukdahan yourself? Everything I have seen makes me more and more excited about arriving there!

As for schools, do you know of any agencies that I could contact? The ones that I have found don't seem to deal with the area. Would it be beneficial to email the schools before arriving to? It's a new concept for me as the last job I had was given to me through an agency before my arrival and I'm a little concerned about travelling on my 60 day tourist visa.

Thank you ever so much, it really is appreciated.

I stayed here last year:

The owner, if still the same, was from Oz and a very nice guy. Been in the area for a long time. I'd suggest going to his place around cocktail hour and having a drink with him. He's got a great bar and when I stayed there, we had a great conversation.

Best of luck!

I don't know of any agencies and I wouldn't bother emailing the schools, I'd just show up at their door with a well presented resume. Also look in Ajarn.com the Princess and Mukdahan Schools seem to always advertise there when they are looking for a teacher.

Good timing, often schools will look for new teachers around now, to teach in the second semester.

If you can, even try to visit the schools this month, as they'll need a bit of time to decide if they like you + set the timetables to include a foreign teacher (Some schools "want" Farang teachers, and are willing to pay for them, but don't know how to look, so if one turns up they'll try to fit them in, however if the timetable is already set.... then a lot of work is required.... which might make saying no a more appealing option lol).

If you miss out on a job starting in late Oct / early Nov, you'll likely need to wait until March/April to find a job, as they're few and far between once the term is already underway.

Good luck :)
