Popular Post rgs2001uk
Oops, I'm talking about USD. Let's say an education visa too. I think living on $8000 USD is totally doable. $8k at say 30 baht to the $ = 240,000 baht, or 20,000 baht per month. Lets just say, rather you then me. 5,000 baht per month for condo rental leaves 15,000 baht per month, or 500 baht per day. Oh its doable, why anyone would even attempt it is beyond me. Would this be a difficult feat? Can the lifestyle be comfortable? Perfectly doable. What lifestyle, it certainly wont be comfortable, unless you are in training to be a monk. Popular Post jamiesilver
Yes its possible, ive done it on less infact. But you need discipline and the ability to spend a lot of time in your condo, instead of getting sucked into pubs clubs and fancy restaurants. Ofcourse, there are ways to enjoy these perks if you meet Mr right.

Now now samran, please dont be too harsh. Some call it living the dream, for others its the pull of the hairy magnet. Whats her name OP and what is she bringing to the table. Best you hook up with the "phlaya" and land a teachers assistant gig in Cambo. That kao man gai will get pretty boring by about the third day. As for pissing it up against the wall, doubt if theres much chance of that, he aint going to be able to afford to supp piss. It will be Cheers Extra, Red Horse, Archa or Chang on the balcony, great social life that. I remember eating in Tony Romas place on lower Suk years ago, always used to see the TEFLr types staring in enviously as they waited for a non aircon bus to ferry them back to some scuzzy apt in Sam Rong.

bendejo
It could be done. US$22 per day. Definitely more comfortably outside of Bangkok. You'll be pinching your satang, and the living conditions may be trying. A round-trip on the BTS could eat up nearly 20% of your daily budget. When you go to 7-11 collect the stamps they give you. I don't know your background, but when it's over you will definitely have learned something about humility and empathy.

Popular Post DP25
Quite easy to do if you want to do and are only interested in leading a simple life. No foreign food (aside from what you cook at home) and no foreign bars and the 'girlfriends' you find in them though. If you just want to eat Thai food in local restaurants, maybe have a few beers at a local Thai bar once in a while, you could do it and have a good time. I assume you are at least bringing a computer or something for basic entertainment though. You'd be better off living in the provinces though. You won't have enough money to enjoy any of the Bangkok 'attractions', so why not live in a provincial capital where the basic cost of living is a bit lower? Say you'd pay 5k for rent and utilities, you'd be left with an average of 500 baht a day. Honestly I'd struggle to spend that much most days in the provinces, there is just nothing to spend it on without blowing it on alcohol or women. Which 90% of the forum members seem to live here to do, but if you aren't interested in that, you'd be fine. You actually would have enough for some nights out at local Thai bars though.
Popular Post theguyfromanotherforum
Don't listen to old tired men here. If you are young 8k USD a year is doable. However, you should really, really consider "the unexpected" events, such as illness, trip to a hospital and all other things that can make or break a man in Thailand. Personally (I know it is hard to believe) I live lavishly on 30k a month, but I also have free accommodation. If it's just a year or two, go for it.
