I am in Pattaya and thinking of getting my Ranger re-shod.

I am looking at getting 285/70R17 so if anyone has any recommendations on a particular brand, tire outlet and price, I can start the search.

Thanks,

NL

I fitted bridgestone dueler 673 m/t 32x11.5R15

From cockpit. The rims are Daytona Rays.

I part exchanged the 3 month old 16rim original ranger wheels and paid extra about 45000฿. The value of the old set was 25000฿.

I'd post a pic but can't from my phone. This was in Korat.

I am on a budget and sticking with the factory rims.

The 285/70R17 is the largest diameter tire that can fit those and avoid lift kits and other mods.

I hear you ... The lift cost about 3000 iirc. I d still suggest you take a look at your nearest cockpit outlet. A thai friend who recommended them is very pleased with their afterservice. Another plus is that they're all over so you can use your loyalty card everywhere as opposed to a normal tyre dealer.

The only glitch I have is I live in the sticks ATM no Tarmac hence the mud terrain tyres. When it rains ,and I drive the last couple of kilometres the whole car is CAKED in mud lol as the tyres protrude from the side of the car and the mud flaps do f^** all. I've not yet found any bigger mudflaps yet.. The only thing I found was fender flares which I'm not sure would solve the problem

I have looked at the basic lift kits you mentioned but a 3" rise would just leave the wheel arches looking empty again despite having the bigger 33" tires in there.

The fender flares will make little difference as there's lots of knobbly tire still flinging mud when your turning left or right. Wider mud flaps may look ugly but try and add a scuttle to block the gap between the lower door sills and the side rails as well?

Sorry you lost me with the scuttle remark. I'm not very car savvy lol only owned a Peugeot 306 and Kia pride back home both old. I'm trying to attach a couple of pics but they won't upload.

I agree that probably mudflaps would not look good. Even the flares I'm sceptical about. I like the look now tbh, I would only like to protect the body a little from mud and stones. Cleanliness as such is not a major issue as car wash here is super cheap 140฿ inside and out even tho you have to be extra careful as the two scratches have could not have come from anywhere else except the car wash.

You barsteward! I wanted a red one but couldn't wait (this back in 2012 when ANY Ranger was scarcer than hens teeth). Mine's gunmetal blue with motorbike indentations all around the front end. That way they can see that either I don't easily give way or I am a blind old duffer (or both).

Nice to see you have kept the original grill and not implanted one of them godawful black, wooden 'raptor' things with the big F O R D letters and LED's.

How many inches is your lift?

I haven't got a clue mate as the people from cockpit asked me after they finished if I was happy at how high it was and I said yes. It looks about right with the size of my tires IMO. I bought mine last December, Christmas Day picked it up :) only waited 10 days.

Yes I like the front original grill. The only thing which I'd like to do more (for aesthetics) is remove the chrome bumper from behind. But I'm not convinced it's the best of ideas tho! Lol

Yokohama's are manufactured in Thailand - thus the cost is less.....always been a Michelin person and think they are the best but when I went into the local one here and got a sour employee....cost them a 5 wheel & tires purchase customer.....

The Yoko's I chose are Geolanders and have been fine.....265-70-16 M/S...I chose more of a roadway tread over the other off road(y) choices....we don't get off road too often but they've done well in the limited muddy places we've been......

Basic lifts are done by placing circular blocks at the tops of the front suspension struts and rectangular blocks between the rear axle and the springs. Alternatively, longer spring shackles can be used on the rear axle. Have a look underneath and you can reach them with a measuring tape. I think 2" (50 mm) is the maximum recommended without affecting other drive and suspension components whereas 3" and up are more for off-road applications and probably not street legal in the real world.

My Ranger was only a couple of weeks old when the rear bumper took a major ding from someone while it was parked up. If you ever decide you don't want the back bumper, PM me and I will take it off your hands.

Avoid the Bridgestone Duellers II tyres - I have them on my Ranger and they offer little grip on the road as I think they've been designed to last for 200,000 kms.

I will replace them with Michelens soon.
