Koh Tao - 'Killers will be caught'

The only good if any to come out of this sad episode is that maybe the goverment are reading these treads. There is a common trend of mafia, saving face and drugs and of course the police coruption. This General and now Prime minister seems a good guy and want to do good for his country and its people and maybe seeing and hearing all this bad press some good will come out of this evil. I am very disillusioned with Thailand a country I love and where my wife and son were born so I hope this might be a turning point or maybe I am being naive. I hope and pray that this evil is caught and maybe give the family some solace in knowing that they will pay for their crime.

One can only hope they are not reading these threads or it will remove any last remaining residual doubt that the majority of farangs are through idiots.

This is going to be a double wammy for Thailand. It's going to damage tourism and it will (yet again) embarrass and shame the police force here. It's well known they can't protect tourists from violence, but it makes it 10 times worse that they can't investigate a crime properly.

When a significant portion of the average Thai police officer's income comes from somewhere other than the official channel (payroll), the result is the complete absence of justice in the country. It's very sad but that's the reality. Everything from a gruesome murder like this, to a commonplace pickpocketing or swindle by a taxi driver goes unpunished, all. the. time.

Does anyone really expect a different reality when law enforcement officers live off of bribes as the rule rather than the exception? Do we really expect them to be good at their "jobs" when the majority of what they do all the time is conduct shakedowns of small businesses, do favors or intimidate for bribes, etc? The flow of illegal income goes right up to the top. Everyone who's ever spent any decent amount of time in Thailand knows this, yet many are outraged that there's no effective investigating happening.

Personally, I would be absolutely shocked if the police did something in the public interest as an outcome of this sad series of events.

It is a wrong conclusion that it means a complete absence of justice.

The killer of the poor girl on the train a quick example.

Your hypothesis has just been disproved.

If all crimes go unpunished then how come there are so many people in thai prisons, living in overcrowded cells??

The class of the victim and perpetrator define whether there is justice.

How sure can we be they are all guilty?

we can be sure they didn't have enough money or friends....

1) why is everyone hung up on the stained pants? The police packed the guys stuff, all his stuff, and took it away. there was no attempt to frame the victim and I dont know how anyone draws any conclusions on that aspect

2) the police apparently have a wealth of DNA samples now. this doesnt just go away.

3) they are narrowing the gap between the guy running away in the CCTV video, and the concealing of his identity, so, expect he will soon be turned in

4) the local business people are concerned enough to start a reward, and to speak out.

5) someone will be threatened to keep quiet, or be killed to stay quiet,

rape and murder is not petty theft,

the weight of the crime weighs more heavily each day, as, no matter what and who got caught up in the moment, or was unwittingly involved before the murder was committed,

rape is one thing,

rape and murder is more than 1 + 1 = 2

it is more like 1 + 1 = 1,000

there were two murders, they both fought,

when the police say a wealth of DNA has been collected,

I guarantee you there is at least one or more men walking around, or hiding, not showing up for work, with cuts on his face

this is far from cut and dry escape

there will be unexplainable absences from work

the people in the bar have a good idea who did it,

pressure grows in this case, not subsides

my humble review

Rohinya migrants now suspected in British couple’s death

9-18-2014-10-42-37-PM-wpcf_728x413.jpg

BANGKOK: -- Local police today added Rohinya migrants into suspected groups of three to find out after DNA results ruled out all their earlier detained suspects from the murder of the two British tourists.

The British brothers and friends to the slain David Miller, Mr Christopher Ware, 24, and his brother James, were now in the custody of the British embassy and they will leave for homes tonight.

Christopher’s DNA test did not match those collected from the scene of murder and the victim’s body.
Besides he also was cleared of the wounds on his wrist which was old and not fresh wounds caused during lighting fireworks.

However the embassy officials said they were ready to give cooperation in case new investigation implicated him again in the murder.

Both were scheduled to depart for home tonight.

Pol Maj-Gen Kiatipong Khoasam-arng, chief of Surat Thani police, said he has received all DNA test results unofficially.

He said from the DNA test, there were mixed DNA samples inside Ms Hannah Witheridge, indicating more than one suspect were involved.

This gave the police clearer picture of suspected groups, but still did not rule out earlier theories, he said.

He said the police now gave more weight to an Asian looking man who appeared in the CCTV video footage of a resort home walking around near the scene wearing no shirt.

The man was at first thought to be a friend of the male victim, but after DNA test didn’t match any detained suspect, the police have to turn to this man again.

But he said so far the police have not found the man.

However the police now have launched massive dragnet to find this man throughout the entire island, he said.

He said investigation would be back to square one with focus now on three groups, namely local Thai people on the island, migrant workers, and tourists.

But he said migrant workers is the most suspected group, particularly the Rohinya migrants, judging from the gruesome nature of the killing.

However the police still have not yet ruled out Christopher Ware because there are still several evidence which are pending forensic examination, he said.

They have looked at almost every other Nations people as being suspects but have they even for 1 second considered thais may be involved or is that just to ridiculous to even contemplate?

No matter our views or disgust at the way this investigation is going, we cannot participate or be heard by anyone since we are just virtual non-entities who have no power whatsoever and farangs of no importance.

Good. Sounds like the police are not ruling anyone out. Glad to see they are keeping an open mind.

Ofcourse, if the attackers were native Thai then hearing the police are looking for a different ethnic group might result in the attackers letting their guard down.

Its only a matter of time before they are caught. Thats the way police work occurs everywhere in the world. Leads develop over time and are investigated. Guys brag to their buddies or girlfriends and when the friendships or relationships end then those secrets are exposed. Meanwhile, the police are collecting and processing evidence and keeping and exploring all avenues.

How racist is this statement? Thais are not capable of rape and murder?

Just last week in the paper was a story of 3 rapes on young Thai girls. First one was committed by the appartment security guard (a Thai), second one on an 11 year old girl was committed by her uncle (a Thai) and the third was a rape of an 8 year old by a monk (a Thai)

Add to that the mindless shootings stabbings that happen daily in Bangkok committed by so called university students against rival uni students gives you an idea of how the Thais do operate.

Saving face? Thailand lost its face years ago!

The Australian government does have a travel ban in place on the current Thai leadership.

So we do have a say.

And though its lobe-sided here somewhat , in the real world we matter.

You are right, this sentence is extremely racist and would be probably illegal in the West.

I do hope you are being sarcastic because otherwise you are just being plain dumb. The fact this happened at all quite possibly indicates the perp's feel safe as they are well connected. I notice the police have not yet even mentioned the local rumors of a drunk Thai youth harassing the girl a few hours earlier and that the UK boy helped to get rid of him. If this is true then there is a chance the locals in the bar will know who he is, or if he is not local then at least where he was staying. This would have been a massive loss of face and more than enough for many Thai's to flip out.

TIT. As with so many murders before they have no intention of finding out that it was a Thai. Sadly I have a feeling this will remain unsolved.

RIP and condolences to the families of the victims.

I have heard this too in a previous post on one of the forums...The only trouble is if it is true and I'm not saying it isn't

both the poor girl and guy who stuck for her would not be alone and you would be sure there friends would have mentioned it

in the run in with the RTP....that makes me think it maybe isn't true...And if it is why have the police not mentioned it..

This does as so many have said is starting to stink and for sure somebody knows something on the Island...

My deepest sympathy to all family's and friends of the deceased in this..

One other...I have no wish to view the pictures put on facebook by Police..In fact if ever there was one thing that sums up

the BiB efforts and credibility in this matter is this.... disgraceful !! when are we going to see the police responsible sacked !!
