What are the best ways to meet other expats?

Using an overseas Debit Card to minimise paying tax for those of us staying over 180 days
I'm in the same position. There is no CGT in Australia for non-residents when the gain is made on Non-Taxable Australian property, and Singapore, where there is no CGT at all. The income has been reported in the country it was made, but is legally tax free there, so definitely not tax evasion. In the past this was easy to remit to Thailand without having to pay any tax on it here, by using the "earned in previous year(s)" method. Unless / until Thailand starts taxing all overseas income, regardless of whether it's remitted here or not, the capital gains you make in such countries are not taxable here, as long as they're not remitted. Now, at this point I was going to agree with you on using the gain from one asset to buy another, and then sell that at break even, or a small loss before remitting it to Thailand, but while thinking about how to word it I changed my mind, as I suspect the TRD will only be interested in the sale of the second asset as a whole. Unless you realised the initial gain, and bought the second asset prior to Jan 1st this year, I think it will all be assessable. I hope I'm wrong, but everything I've read in the tax code, and talking to TRD people, I fear that I'm right. Using a similar example, If I made a capital gain of $10,000 this year and put it in a bank, then remit the full amount next year, I'd need to report that as assessable income. Even if bank fees caused that amount to drop slightly, so I'd made no gain on that money, it would still be assessable. Buying shares may be treated differently, but I suspect it will be the same. The TRD will see that you sold £10,000 of shares, that you didn't hold prior to Jan 1st this year (if that even matters, but that's a different can of worms), and will want to collect the tax on it. In any case, this is definitely a question for a reputable tax advisor. (However, I'm holding off asking any such questions until the tax advisors themselves know what is going on. Hopefully later this year, though given that this year's tax situation regarding remitted funds is no different from previous ones, in that income earned prior to this year is still non-assessable, it may not be till late 2025 that things actually become clear). -

Retirement Extension 800k, Phuket
Did my retirement extension this morning, I counted 7 people inside room 103 at 08:30 that has moved 10 meters since last year to the building next to the toilets. Paperwork Pre-checks done by a couple young fellows there - the usual copies PP data page, all previous extensions, last entry, selfie of yourself with house number, he asked for a google map copy of your residence - had that, all bank passbook page copies, 12 month bank statement and bank letter obtained yesterday - no issues. One other thing, to all that may have a 90 day Non O e-visa from your home country make sure you bring a copy of it every extension. Done in 45 minutes, 1900 baht, pick up passport tomorrow with the new next 90 day reporting slip. See you next year !!!! -

Kamala Harris's VP Choice: Did She Make Her First Major Campaign Mistake?
Perhaps you would be so kind as to state what charges were laid, if any. And if any conviction resulted. IIRC, Trump has 34 of them. -

Move Forward Party dissolved, leaders banned for 10 years - video
See the PM got off scot-free and what a surprise NOT but his Government is run by Thaskin but yes only the leaders are banned for 10 years and they forming a new party. Even the so-called democracies the US and UK are simply not and the vast majority of so-called politicians are pure filth, vermin and scum throughout the world!!! -

Ukraine Carrys Out Cross Border Incursion into Russian Kursk Region
Before getting too excited, it has happened before that the lightning advance goes too fast for the supply chain to keep up, and the "lightning advance" grinds to a halt. Battle of the Bulge, anyone? -

I'm confused, USA is now a communist country?
Both were idealists initially. Castro became an oppressive, multi billionaire dictator. Che became a serial killer. -

Kamala Harris's VP Choice: Did She Make Her First Major Campaign Mistake?
This cackling woman has been making major mistakes all her life. Choosing Tim Walz as her left wing VP just adds to those mistakes. I added a nice photo of Tim Walz's mugshot for your enjoyment.- 1

Ukraine Carrys Out Cross Border Incursion into Russian Kursk Region
Unless the Ukrainians can magic up enough troops to protect the incursion from being enveloped, seems to me that they are at risk of being cut off from retreat, and thus, once the supplies run out have to surrender. One also wonders if it was worth it when they are so short manned along the entire border? Perhaps this is a diversion, and the real action is going to happen elsewhere. Wouldn't be the first time that happened, but it usually means an unhappy fate for those in the diversion.
