Prayuth takes responsibility for his comments 'as a gentleman'

His advisers advise him to make an apology for his disgusting, disgraceful and heartless comments and he automatically becomes "a gentleman" in his own head? Amazing Thailand...

Bring the corruption level way down, appreciate farangs living here - and solve a murder case. Do those 3 things and I will be impressed.

Let's look at some past powerful officials: Chalerm did not apologize for his drunken appearance and slurry speeches - he blamed ear medicine. Yingluck did not apologize for her stupid idea of a high-speed rail system to be used for moving carrots to Chiang Mai - she still has not realized what a fool she is, god bless her. Others who have been caught red-handed for stealing, lying to the public, falsifying records, looking at porn during Parliament session - they all have a justification and never apologized.

Prayuth is out of his depth in international matters, he will either adapt or not, we will see. But, he apologized publicly for his remarks, whether advised or not does not make a difference. He is the only Thai PM I know of who ever apologized, now isn't that a change from all others who can never admit they did wrong?

I'm sure the families of the two slain kids will take great comfort in that.

It appears that you don't give a damn about those two slain kids. If you cared a bit, you wouldn't be politicizing this tragedy, would you? Taking a cheap shots at old fella for publicly saying that all women should dress up appropriately instead of walking around half-naked will give great comfort to the families of the two brutally killed Brits.

Man, how low can you stoop trying to defend your post? Now, who has become disgusting, disgraceful and heartless?

Do they take comfort in knowing they are being used to play politics by people with an enormous chip on their shoulder?

I have no idea how you reached that conclusion. My thoughts are ONLY with the families and the fact is the clown PM is causing them extra and unnecessary torment with his comments. How you reached your conclusion that I don't care about the kids and their families because I criticized the leader of Thailand for his comments is beyond me. It's hardly a cheap shot at the "old fella" really is it? He's a buffoon who is clearly out of his depth - and that's not according only to me but himself as well. All of his rhetoric telling us he's apologizing (and therefore a gentleman) because he thinks like a military man is hardly conducive to generating trust nor belief in his abilities as self appointed PM, is it?

At least he is man enough to admit his mistakes. Not something you hear much in Thailand.

Yes, he is a soldier and thinks like one. They are not always known for their tact.

I have to admit I am not too keen on a military government in any country, but Thailand did need something to happen. At least he gives the impression of trying to wade through some very difficult situations and rectify many things. For me time and the future will tell if he is doing a good job.

I am absolutely certain he is doing and will be doing a super job. Thanks God Thailand has Prayuth to lead this country into a better future.

Well that would be you wouldn't it. You tell us that it's okay for your beloved PM to make insensitive and disgraceful comments because others before him have done so. But I wouldn't expect anything more from you.

Good question. You should tell us.

Indeed. The Bernard Manning of Thai politics.

Its like having the old uncle in the room who.talks like Alf Garnett and everyone just puts up.because its too.much hassle to get him to stop.

I wouldnt say thai's dont care at all about foreign opinion. The guy did apologise for making an offensive remark. He did clean up at least some of the taxi mafia and other scams. Doesnt that help improve tourism in the long run?

I'll spell it out for you. You had to drag "the families of the two slain kids" into our discussion. And I would have expected better from you.

Loath it or love it the current military dictatorship is the REAL face of Thailand. We all know who really runs the show so why bother with "Governments" and "Democracy" its up to the people to make the change if they have the guts.

I don't understand why posters have an issue with a Thai politician who immediately upon realizing that something he said required an apology and clarification, and THEN GAVE IT openly and humbly would have a problem with this?

He has set a great example of taking responsibility for his own actions

something that TV posters scream bloody murder about Thai's not doing as a culture,

this is a great step forward for Thailand, for anyone with a forward looking thinking process

It wasn't that long ago you was slating Thailand in another post, telling everyone on tv you would not be returning anytime soon from the USA. Pray tell me, how did you completely change your whole itinerary so quickly and became so passionate for Thai life ...

Mind Boggles ??????

passionate for Thai life?

hardly

Thai girls, yes,

Thailand, no

It is remarkable that this man has taken responsibility for his actions, and for his mistakes. And he has apologized. This is something we do not see very often. Either he is humble, or he is being well advised. Either way, it is a good thing, and it says alot about his intelligence, and his ability to lead. Thailand has had such a shortage of talented politicians and leaders that this guy feels like a breath of fresh air. Very unorthodox, and unconventional. At least he appears that way. Perhaps the Army helped him develop into a straight forward man. Something this country is not accustomed to, and greatly needs.

I think he is the best leader Thailand has presented to the world thus far

I'm unsure whether that says more about you, or about Thailand.

;>

All the farangs who get so invested in one side or another in Thai politics make me laugh.

Thais don't care what we think, and we can't vote, so our views don't matter.

And what none of you seem to realize is that they're all entirely corrupt, by Western standards, all of them - the upheavals experienced by Thai society are caused by the clash of competing elite patronage networks, nothing more.

There are no 'good guys' in Thai politics - so passionate attachment to one side or another makes even less sense than allegiance to some professional sports team halfway around the world.

Dude don't speak with your ar** , what prove do you have that mr Prayuth is corrupt??

Let the man do his job. Under the circumstances he probably is the best and 5hat is what counts.

No need though for forbidding advertising of booze.

Thank you General Prayuth for taking responsibility for your words. This is refreshing and shows that not only do you expect change for the better in Thailand. You lead the way.

I for one am very impressed with your leadership and hope others will follow.

Please tell the police force to look at ALL avenues in the murder case on Koh Tao and not close their eyes to the possibility that a person or persons of ANY nationality could have done this.

I was hoping so too, but have lost all respect for the bloke after his typical Thainess comments regards the Koh Tao incident. He may have apologized in part for his comment upsetting 'some' people, but the damage is done, you know what he's thinking. He could only be the 'best leader' due to his army status and forcing his way in. IMO the most rounded, down to earth leader Thailand could ever hope to have is Mark, but unfortunately this country is just not ready for that quality of statesman.

The last sentence ruined what could have been a good post.

Let's not made any apologies for the General. He is well known for his sharp tongue off-the-cuff remark. After all he is a soldier and a General. 3 insensitive remarks just this week. Fortunately all these are domestic gaffes. Hope when he start visiting foreign governments, he will be more thoughtful and constrained or he risk creating an international ambarassment.

If he keeps this kind of behavior up he will be elected as PM as many times as he likes. Any one who has lived a life in military command positions is going to have a learning curve in a democracy, however he is a breath of fresh air. Can you imagine the Boss ever apologizing?

"As a gentleman, I take responsibility for my words and actions. I apologise to you all," he said.

Apologies accepted Mr. Prayuth, anyone makes mistakes, Naa? wink.png

As for taking responsibilities; I'm looking forwards to be reimbursed for

the 20% loss in income since you started with your words and actions. thumbsup.gif

Thanks in advance wai.gif
