He's German. He's in Thailand. They won the world cup. It's all good. If it was my stingy American government they would allow me to sit on a street corner with a swollen foot.

Maybe, maybe not. But if this hit the news, the American people would overwhelm you with help.

In 2013, the American people were ranked the most generous in the world for charitable giving. In 2010, they were ranked the 5th most generous.

Edit. #1 in 2012. LINK

You're talking about the PEOPLE & I agree with you, but Submaniac was talking about the GOVERNMENT. Big difference.

Yeah, I've never seen natives pull scams like this in Thailand and Cambodia. How dare a foreigner beat them at their own game. Also the people that came up with money for him was a German organization from what I read. Thai's didn't lose anything. Oh wait, they lost face. We can't let that happen now can we?!

So many scams in Thailand that's why the country has got such a bad name.

This happens a lot all over the world.

Beggars and some Charities all over the world collect cash from good natured some say stupid people and use it inappropriately to suit them selves and feather their own nest.

A lesson should be:

Never give to Beggars.

Never give to Charities.

The KKK and Nazis learned and tried to spread these same kind of lessons based on relating some people's actions to entire groups. There are just so many people in need in this world who need a helping hand or would perish or suffer extreme hardship if it was not for the giving nature of so many people and charitable organizations.

where is the context with NAZIS or KKK ????

Both are groups of folks who judged other groups of people and promoted negative views of others based on the actions of a few ... as mentioned above and what the poster I am responding to is suggesting people do. Yes a bit over the top to drill home a point that it is wrong to condemn entire groups for the actions of a few or simply ignorant stereotypes.

Are you baiting me or did you not really see this?

Apologies in advance to those who are footing the bill while this guy kicks of his dancing shoe in pattaya, I mean it's just not footie sorry Cricket.

There's definitely something afoot here, I mean it's not like they are searching for Yeti or anything, did the police find any evidence if his crimes, toe prints perhaps.

Sounds like a bit of old Sasquatch to me.

On a more serious note I do not normally mock the afflicted and I do think it could have a negative impact on others who are in real need of help, I've made the exception here as this guy is really not putting his best foot forward here in terms of doing right by those who helped get him, I doubt even his irregularity will give him a foot to stand on when it comes to put forward his defense, perhaps a 12 inch subway may have been more appropriate than 50k.

How bored am I today, perhaps he was onto something with the trip to pattaya.

...in Pattaya, sex tourism capital of the world.

I'm deeply offended by this. Perhaps the OP needs to change his circle of friends, or perhaps he is just jealous of those who live in Pattaya. coffee1.gif

On a serious note... In Pattaya it is OK for Cambodians, Khmer, and Lao beggars to sit everywhere with a cup or a dish, why can't 'ol club foot farang? Oh yea, because he's a farang and this is Pattaya where all begging is regulated by the police and local mafia. He should just offer them a cut of his earning.

It's no point giving cash to spongers like that. The cash the raised should have meant an air ticket was bought, or medical attention if he needed it. Might be cynical, but don't give beggars and people like this cash, happy to buy them a meal - but most of the time they don't really want that.

Welcome to the welfare world...

The only thing to argue about is whether a self-destructive path like this is ingrained & patterned somehow in the individual, or actually something that comes about, and is to some extent caused, when a person starts getting handed free money & benefits. 'Not sure it's that much different from the process that brings about addiction to drugs.

Man with swollen leg detained, may be deported; social media fumes over abuse of Thai generosity

PATTAYA: -- AFTER ATTRACTING sympathy and donations from Thais in Bangkok, a German with an excessively swollen leg was seen enjoying drinks and the nightlife in Pattaya on Wednesday night. Tourist police have detained Benjamin Holse, 29.

Lt-Colonel Arun Promphan of the Tourist Police Division said yesterday the German Embassy would be informed of the latest development and Holse would be deported.

Holse sneaked away from a Bangkok hotel that a German foundation had arranged for him to stay in while waiting for the issuance of a passport earlier this week. The German initially claimed his passport was stolen.

Taxi motorcyclists in South Pattaya said yesterday they recognised Holse from his pictures in the news when he showed up on Tuesday night.

Holse was described on social media as a poor man whose money and passport had stolen in Thailand and who ended up begging for money on Bangkok streets.

Chumphol Thiangtham, chairman of Deutscher Hilfsverein Thailand eV, said on Sunday the German organisation had approached Holse and offered him help before his case went viral on the Internet, but he turned it down.

Tourist police, after learning about Holse, then contacted Chumphol and asked him to help the German, he said.

The taxi motorcyclists in Pattaya claimed that Holse showed off more than Bt40,000 when they recognised him. "He also gave us money, telling us to get him some beer and some girls for him to sleep with," one of the taxi motorcyclists said on condition of anonymity.

He claimed Holse did not like the girl they brought for him and decided to check out Pattaya Walking Street himself.

During his trip to Pattaya, many pictures of Holse were taken and uploaded onto social media.

Once again pictures of him created a stir, but there was no sympathy this time.

Thais are angry because it seems he preyed on their generosity.

A hotel employee in Pattaya claimed a drunk Holse called Thais stupid for giving him money.

Tourist police who accompanied Holse to a hotel in Pattaya on Wednesday night said the German had just Bt7,000 left.

According to the tourist police, Holse claimed he came to Pattaya to meet a friend but his friend did not show up.

Swollen leg - possible Viagra side-effect ?

Doesn`t it only affect the "third" leg wink.png ??

YES...I'm sure with 50 grand he probably had enough coin to experience some swelling in other parts of his body. But 50 grand doesn't go far so he may not die with a smile on his face.

I am German resident, living here in Pattaya since long time and feel ashamed abut that guy.

Hope, he will disappear from here.

If You watch all these lonesome losers hanging at the bars around, already in the morning, with the beer,

what can you expect ??

Pattaya needs a change, urgent.

Less people like this and more qualified tourists.

Why on earth would 'qualified' tourists go to Pattaya ? the beaches are poor, sea polluted and the town is jammed with traffic. Black market money from Russians fueling the property market & cheapskate Russians from Siberia on 2 week budget packages. Seems only the sexpats are willing to put up with such poor facilities, not your average tourist who has the pick of many decent beaches in Thailand.

Pattaya needs raising to the ground urgent ! thats the only change worthwhile.

I've been a tourist for years but I've never been 'qualified'. Where do I get my qualification papers? So all these years I've been touring around the world without being qualified? WOW!!!...I guess I'm lucky I'm not doing serious time in the monkey house.

Deportation request for dishonest German Beggar from Pattaya Tourist Police

german-111.jpg

PATTAYA: -- Pattaya’s Tourist Police have requested Immigration to deport a German man who has been begging for money on Pattaya Beach during the day and using the money to purchase drink and prostitutes at night.

Mr. Benjamin Holst aged 29, first came to the attention of the authorities after he was found sleeping on the streets near Kao San Road in Bangkok. Khun Sirirat from a German Travel Association based in Bangkok, agreed to help Mr. Holst in conjunction with the Tourist Police in Bangkok. She began by providing a Hotel room and food for Mr. Holst and agreed to take him to the German Embassy in Bangkok to obtain a new passport, so he could travel back to Germany.

A total of 40,000 Baht was raised by the Association and others concerned for Mr. Holst, who agreed to meet Khun Sirirat at the German Embassy. Instead he is believed to have gone to the Embassy at an earlier time to obtain an emergency passport but he then travelled to Pattaya with the 40,000 Baht and began begging on Pattaya Beach during the day and frequenting bars at night.

Motorbike Taxi drivers based at the entrance of Walking Street told the Tourist Police that they recognized the man from the TV after he was featured on National TV News Bulletins. Mr. Holst is alleged to have asked them to find him women for sex and they confessed to providing him with female companionship on a number of occasions.

If anyone is interested im offering a 5 day tourist course for only 50000 baht at the end of the 5 days you will be issued a certificate stating you are allowed in Pattayanon official tourist business, I will then take your money and get drunk and sleep with a bunch of girls before going back to Bangkok, collecting my passport and going back to Germany.

"If it was my stingy American government they would allow me to sit on a street corner with a swollen foot. "

Ordinarly, the US embassy would arrange for emergency repartition back to America. For you, God-willing, your please would go unheeded.
