Re-entry into Thailand after using 90 Days on ED Visa.

Featured Replies

Hi THAI VISA forum-dwellers. I'm hoping someone can give me a clearer picture on what my best course of action is for an upcoming trip to Thailand.

I'm a 26 year old Australian who is travelling to Thailand to study Muay Thai for 2.5 months from Oct. 7 2014 until Dec.16th 2014. (70 Days). I have a 90 day Education Visa to cover this.

My girlfriend will then be meeting me and we will hop to Europe from BKK. I will be in Europe from Dec.16th thru Jan 10th (around 21 days). The GF and I will then return to Thailand to travel around for a further 3 weeks and then I will stay on (GF goes back home) and spend another month training from Feb 1 until March 1st.

So to break down the trip it will be

Thailand - 70 days (90 Day Educational Visa)

Europe - 21 Days

Thailand - 50 days (Unsure about what to do about these 50 days).

I'm unsure as to what to do about the re-entry into Thailand. Would I be able to get the 30 day Tourist Visa and then apply for the 30 day extension if I have an ED Visa in my passport? Or would I have to apply for a Tourist Visa at a Thai Consulate while I'm in Europe(This is not really feasible as I don't want to have to give up my passport as we are doing short hops between countries)? Or can I apply for the Tourist VISA while I am in Thailand during the first leg of the trip?

I appreciate any answers and queries and apologise for the length and somewhat complexity of the post. I have travelled to Thailand multiple times previously but these new VISA regulations have got me a bit muddled.

Thanks in advance!

Your non-imm ED visa will not be usable for your 2nd entry to Thailand.

Your choice are getting a tourist visa in Europe, that can often be done on the same day, or enter visa exempt then extend for 30 more days. The first choice is cheaper.

You will not have a problem re-entering the country after having the ED visa.

It would be best if you got a single entry tourist visa while in Europe. There are a few honorary Thai consulates that will do the visa on the same day you apply.

You can enter for and get a 30 day visa exempt and extend it for 30 days. But you could be denied boarding your flight if you do not have a ticket out of the country within 30 days of arrival.
