Sign at Khao Rang Hill intersection

I just drove past a big white-on-black sign set up in Phuket Town at the intersection coming down from Khao Rang hill, the one with the female only temple. The sign reads something like "US and EU country people don't talk about Thai politics". I don't remember the exact phrasing and I couldn't take a picture but maybe someone will drive past there that can do so.

Now of course it's totally fine that Thais don't want outsiders to be involved in their internal politics (and in fact I don't comment on politics in principle) but of course Thailand works with many US and EU countries to varying degrees and there are a lot of tourists still coming here from these nationalities so I don't quite get the intent of a sign like this.

I hope it is not some kind of nationalism starting to grow around here or some smear campaign against the mentioned countries.

What could be the cause and intentioned effect of a sign like this?

That sign has been up for over a month. I pointed it out to the Mrs. and she said "no one cares". Considering it's been up that long, I guess she was right.

I think even longer, mean to remember it up late May early June when all the critics from the Western world started against the military coup / government.

I totally agree with the sign. Western criticism of Thai politics is unhelpful and unwanted. The west (USA) has had a series of spectacular and costly failures in trying to create democracy in various countries. We should be more respectful and understanding of the cultures and political processes of the countries that we try to dominate. Required reading for our leaders should be Henry Kissinger's new book "World Order."

You mean the man who authorized the carpet bombing of a neutral nation on Chrismas day is is responsible for the deaths of thousands of innocent non-combatants?

The man who, according to recently de-classified documents, wanted JFK to bomb Cuba during the missile crisis?

The man who purposely sabotaged the 1968 peace talks with the Vietnamese in Paris because peace would have jeopardized his master's chances at being elected US president? Thereby dooming thousands more Americans and Vietnamese to die as the war on the ground dragged on to 1973.

You mean Henry J. Kissinger, the War Criminal? Let's hope "our leaders" never, never follow this man's example.

Tx Jet.

My understanding is that it is accepted to comment on politics in private, but as a foreigner the last thing you should do is becoming politically active, even if it is only participating in a demonstration.
