Great advert for the country , you need an escort from your own personal bodyguard for a trip down Family Mart to get 20 fags and a half bottle of Mekong

That is just absolutely hilarious. Seriously. The only people I know who are required to wear wristbands or ankle bracelets so that the authorities can keep track of who they are are people on house arrest! Who in their right mind wants to feel like they're vacationing on house arrest? It's as someone else said above, how about just following the laws already in place and doing the jobs you've been entrusted to do? Why make your guests feel like criminals just because you can't get it together?

So Thailand is trying to be the next North Korea ?

PM wants to write himself the scripts of TV show and now tourists will be tracked with electronic devices ?

Nice

Thailand is a very safe country. I have been here 2 years and I haven't so much as seen any trouble. The only problems here in Thailand appear to happen in the places most people know to avoid anyway - Pattaya, Phuket and Bangkok. I am sorry for anyone who gets into trouble here or gets hurt but it doesn't take a genius to work out that there is a certain risk to going to Pattaya and getting extremely drunk. The same would apply to a tourist visiting England, don't go to St Annes in Nottinghnd get extremely drunk or try to purchase drugs in Moss Side in Manchester. It is of course not ideal but at the same time, getting in trouble in Thailand seems entirely avoidable to me.

I'm not sure who's the dumber, you or the tourism minister. Where do you think tourists go?
or koh tao? Edited by ColdSingha

Tourists arrives at the hotel:

"Welcome to Thailand.

Congratulations for getting thru the airport without getting scammed.

Don't overstay or you will be blacklisted. Here, wear this wristband and stay in the safety zone. Don't use the taxies and avoid the jet ski thugs. Prepare yourself for random body searches and piss tests.

The police are worthless so don't get into trouble and whatever you do, stay out of the King Power Duty Free shops when you depart.

And keep that wrist band on in case they find your corpse.

Have a nice stay."

Its all very Total Recall.

I once had a drunken discussion with a friend that Thailand might be actually a special planet where people are actually transported by space ship and not aeroplane. I really wonder what planet these idiots are from to be thinking like this.

The one major flaw in Thai politics is the lack of intelligent, worldly people making decisions. Wrist bands will make it easier for criminals to spot tourists "just off the boat", so to speak. And it's not like a would-be attacker couldn't cut a tag off a person's wrist to hinder the identification process anyway.

Just bring in the UK police and solve this crime instead of coming up with brainless ways to further make Thailand look stupid.

I am Rolling on the ground in laughter. LOS....Land of Stupidity... My god; l cannot believe some of the things this new Govt comes up with. Talk about 'killing the goose that laid the golden egg"

What a great idea..There should also be large trains to pick us up at Suvarnabhumi, and take us to our 'tourist camps' with barbed or electric fence for added security...And we should be made to report to a station every month or so...Hang on, did this not happen in a certain country in Europe some time in the early 1940s??!!!

I could make a suggestion to tag the rapists, and criminals, so they can be checked up on rather than the holidaymakers. But that would be just too obvious.

When tourists check-in to a hotel they will be given a wristband with a serial number that matches their I.D. and shows the contact details of the resort they are staying in so that if theyre out partying late and, for example, get drunk or lost, they can be easily assisted, Kobkarn said.

or - how the Thai government visualizes the typical tourist.

I love these own goals.

So we have two unsolved murders currently being investigated a Russian woman in Phuket was raped a Spanish woman in Bkk was raped a body washes ashore in Phuket with arms and legs tied with rope another body washes ashore in samed with obvious blows to the back of the head. I'm sure I have missed something out here.

However we re advised the above is being considered for when we are out partying late drunk or lost....

Is this BEYOND offensive or is this just me ?

I could seriously vomit right now.

Why not spend the effort on tracking and catching the criminals, rather that tracking people that want to have fun. Rising stupidity will see this country become a tourist nightmare.

The 3 areas comfortably make up more than 90%+ of tourist numbers to Thailand.

Who exactly is avoiding them?

Perhaps you should clarify that remark for the sakes of our American cousins. By getting 20 fags you mean cigarettes.biggrin.png

We have just had the "push bike" debate on another thread. I wouldn't want there to be an unfortunate misunderstanding.cheesy.gif

2 nations divided by a common language.

Oh please forgive - the Australian boy stabbed in the guts a few days ago in Phuket and the Hansen kid jumped and attacked in Samui by the wang and chang pair I believe it was.

The German gentle man stabbed in Samui who owned the bar.

I cant believe this, this will destroy tourism in Thailand. I think USA cabinet knew what is coming that why all this warnings but nobody listened. It will get only worse. Safe areas a.k.a Ghettos same in WW II for Jews and gipsies, and as somebody mentioned it is best we get bar code and around arm BIG T. Every day passes i see more and more influence of Army state, may R.I.P. victims that were killed in Koh tao but this is only excuse for repress tourists more and more. I am thinking when somebody from Thailand come to Europe, Australia or USA we should give a big V as visitor and bar code so he dont get lost. This is pure represion and racism. And after 10 years maybe they should give us only bus with big windows bulletproof and put us in same in Jurrasic park to drive us route Pattaya or Krabi to "safe" zone or making some routes.

I bet next time you are out having a beer the street sellers will have jumped the gun and have the wrist bands for sale! With the guarantee you wont have to get visa anymore or do 90 day reporting and of course no one will ever hurt you! As they have been blessed in the temple....
