Well atleast its a change in always reading about 30 people die in bomb blast, man was ripped off, old lady was robbed now crippled, and all the other bad stuff going on all the time. Anyway, I know I would be a minority here, and am even surprised someone would raise this topic here in ThaiVisa, since I know westerners, well most of them anyway, are very cynical and do not look at this subject kindly. But, since I'm not a westerner, I am glad someone did. Like many Thais (though not as many as it used to be), and Latin Americans I might add, I enjoy watching international level beauty pageant. I guess I just grew up this way with a culture that does not criticize and look down upon beauty pageantry as much as in the West. I understand the way they view it as exploitation, and agree with with them to some extent. I think they are right, but still, it is kind of like guilty pleasure for me. BTW, if you want to know, I watch this show, not for the sexual desire or fantasy of these girls, I can assure you! Anyway, I prefer Miss Japan than Miss Puerto Rico too, just for her personality alone. I think it was her national costume that did it for the judge! What a sexy girl samurai, huh? And that sword! Miss Puerto Rico is certainly beautiful, but, to me, in the plastic, artificial, pretentious kind of way. I know for quite some time that Miss Universe Organization is quite biased for Latin American delegates. Perhaps, it is their biggest market?!? Just look at the judges, not really that diverse and international, is it? And who else in America watch this show?!?!? However, my favorite this year is Miss Mexico, just for her sheer beauty alone. I was surprised she was not among the final fives. I like Miss Switzerland, too, for her blonde beauty. Miss Thailand, although she really worked it and is beautiful in East Asian kind of way, was a little bland on that stage. Most Thai people (those who are still interested, of course) were really behind her this year, though. But nobody tops my ideal Miss Universe, Natalie Glebova, MU2005 (who was crowned in Thailand the year before). That is the real physical (and usually unattainable) beauty!! Someone earlier mentioned "Thai beauty". I am also in the minority of Thais here that thinks desperate attempt to have pale (or white) skin is a stupid idea, and not just "white" Thais only who are beautiful. Thais should have put more emphasis on clear and healthy skin instead of just being "white". It should not matter if you have darker or paler complexion. I think it is a very archaic idea or social value in the elite/aristocrat circle, left from the early modernization time of Thailand. Darker BUT HEALTHIER skin should be celebrated. Well atleast its a change in always reading about 30 people die in bomb blast, man was ripped off, old lady was robbed now crippled, and all the other bad stuff going on all the time. i started the post but i must admit i did not even watch the miss universe contest, i browsed a couple of satellite forums and found there was a lot of jovial interest (mainly from the middle east) so i thought it might be worth a mention on thai visa. and i agree with donz i am sick and tired of every time i put the bbc world news on all it is gloom gloom and more gloom,what is the world coming to. ps did miss erable come any were. the wife has'nt spoke to me since Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
