He got the slogan wrong it should be.

"Let them eat cake"

'Rice ... the best thing since sliced bread'

"Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha said Friday that he would like Thais to prefer rice over bread."

As though one has much of a choice in Thailand. It appears that anyone can cook up a batch of rice in rice cooker. However it takes an artisan to be able to bake a good loaf of bread. The proof lies in just about any bakery you enter. The breads are made from a mix and large amounts of sugar are added to cover up the foul taste. It takes about 2 hours from mixing to the baking of the final product. As for the cakes and pastries...Somehow they think that hydrogenated palm oil is a desirable substitute for butter. It has a terrible taste and coats your tongue for hours.

The Prime Minister will have no problem with this plan as long as Thais don't learn how to bake properly.

Slight Disclaimer: There are a few very excellent Thai bakers who take pride in their developed skills. They use the proper ingredients and allow their dough to rise over a long period of time to develop the desired crumb and flavor. They also know the difference that butter, more butter and even more butter makes in baking a good pastry. However, they are few and far between.

The bar has been raised once again.

How about they educate people on what a proper diet really is, and why it is a proper diet, and then let them choose what they eat.

It won't be too long before he's saying

' Let them eat cake '

Why?

Is that traditional Thai food?

Wow, its like he is channeling the ghost of Phibun from beyond the grave. Back when Pad Thai was introduced to stop xenophobic and nationalist Thais from eating noodles from the Chinamen.. (even though it was a knock off of Thai noodles and designed to have people eating less rice, but you get the picture)

Is this shit even real life anymore?

Just better give up Thailand.

You have allready loose control because internet (what your goverment even tryed to control) and there is no way to get "fair power" back.

Bread is just more convenient. You can grab it and go. Throw a sandwich together in a few minutes. I'd like to see you spread peanut butter and jelly on two slices of rice.

He meant, "let them eat RICE cakes".

With a tablespoon of sugar, a tablespoon of msg, atablespoon of chilli, a dash of nam pla and another tablespoon of sugar. And a Coke.

<script type='text/javascript'>window.mod_pagespeed_start = Number(new Date());</script>

Anything (however stupid) to get attention away from the real issues!! alt=whistling.gif>

Eat your rice and shut up, whilst we are running the country any way we see fit!!

Well talk about stupid you fell for the headline and didn't bother to read the article. The media thrives on morons. A flashy headline and an article completely different about it. Sure fire successful formula to suck in the gullable. I will post this part for you. The first line is the headline and the second one the article.

Prayut says Thais should prefer rice over bread

BANGKOK: -- Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha said Friday that he would like Thais to prefer rice over bread.

A whole world of difference between should and like. A little complicated for non English speakers or those who have it as a second language.

I think it's nice that prayut wants the people to go back to some of their old values. must people critisize everything.

They live to criticize and as I have shown many of them don't even bother to read the article. Or are not conversant in the English language.wai.gif

The truth is this guy wants to control everybody. What they do what they eat how they think what they say.

He won't rescind martial law because god forbid someone might dare criticize his policies or actions or have an original thought.

Did it ever occur to you that he is the first leader to actually have the power and the determination to make Thailand a better country. He for sure doesn't need your input.

Speaking of original thoughts have you any or is it just going to be Polly wants a cracker with you.

I personally find it disgusting people come to Thailand and choose to criticize any one that tries' to improve the life of a Thai.sad.png

Perhaps he should also tell Thais to stop shopping at Big C, 7/11, buy their petrol from the local retailers andnot go to Central/Robinsons? By doing so they could maintain the traditional way of living.

But he won't. That would upset his friends.

of course it's better for Thai peoples' health to eat rice, and also better for the country's economy, because flours are imported.

just keep the price of rice down and people will prefer rice, plus it will sell well abroad ! easy, isn't it?

keep living costs down, organize farming cooperatives to optimize productivity and keep production costs low, create cooperative rice mills, help cooperatives to export their rice.

an in contrast to the many mocking posts here, the rice issue is of crucial importance for Thailand.

Thais shall eat rice, Germans shall eat Sauerkraut, Yankees shall take Fench Fie, sorry: French Fries, Italians Spaghetti, and Ugandans Matoke.

So be it, by command of God.

11th commandment.

Yes Sir!

I wonder why the General has not uttered one syllable regarding the country being ground zero for the sex trade. wai2.gifwai.gif

Too entrenched to tackle the mysoginistic nature of the culture? giggle.gif

Too profitable?

Improve the lives of who?

Apparently, not all Thai...

you can make bread from rice

So no need to import wheat

go go Thai bread

Funny to watch those on these forums who are now realising that they backed the wrong horse furiously trying to defend yet another completely wacky statement from dear leader

If he is worried about saving their culture, he should urge them to do away with smart phones (all phones) and ride elephants and buffaloes around.

Oh, oh... and go waaaay back to their true culture and make all the women topless again. THAT is part of their true culture. Yes, naked boobs are part of Thai culture. And that is something I would stand behind and fully support.

Too profitable. Everyone has their hands in that pie, otherwise it wouldn't exist.

" Coming soon - education camps for eating Subway"

This has everything to do with westernisation of Thais - and fears that they might eventually not permit people with guns to tell them what to eat/think/ or act.

Its easier to have them sit around the TV or the floor watching him attempt his indoctrination , than doing a Pizza or Subway in a mall and discuss politics (or lack of it)

It's an economic statement. "Eat Thai rice, not imported wheat".

Luckily this is a forum where people are allowed to give their opinion on the current state of affairs of a country they live and work in.

I personally find it disgusting that their are people like you on this forum who quite literally believe and do anything they are told without every questioning anything.

You are working class Thais:

This is what you eat

This is what you think

This is your religion

This is how you dress

This is what you watch on TV

Sorry there won't be any questions. We taught you that in school.

You are the elite:

If it feels good do it.

His culture and life is military. This is what the military does tells its soldiers what to do 24 hrs a day. Why in the world do people have such a hard time understanding he is "ruling" the country the same way. Hes military for pete's sake! And hes a clown

This great General can do anything? He is now a nutritionist?

What about the copious amounts of sugar that is being consumed by the younger Thais?
