You simply go to one of the Land transport office in Bangkok . If you are late, they will charge you a small daily amount when you pay.

It is a legal requirement in Thailand for cars to have Compulsory Motor Insurance (CMI or Por Ror Bor). This insurance is required by law with a set premium and cover rates. It only covers third parties and passengers.

CMI can be bought from the local Department of Land Transport Office (DLT), from car insurance companies, and from some car dealerships. The only document required is the car registration document (Blue Book or Lem Tabian).

Vehicle Roadworthiness in Thailand All cars over seven years old and motorbikes over five years old must undergo regular inspection by official test centres.

Cars older than seven years and motorbikes older than five years need to undergo a safety inspection every year in order to be issued with a document called a TorRorOr, which certifies that the vehicle is roadworthy. No reminder is issued, but without the TorRorOr it is not possible to get the annual tax sticker once the car is over seven years old.

Note: All cars must display a tax sticker on the windscreen as proof that car tax has been paid. The ticket has an expiry date. Car tax is paid annually at the local DLT office.

Glad I can be of help.

If you already have your compulsory Insurance slip you then use the queue system. Normaly some staff will check your have your book and insurance slip and give you a queue number. Time varies according to the crowd present. My own experience to renew the tax sticker varies between 20 minutes and 1 hour.

If you buy the compulsory insurance at the Land Transport Office, there are insurance agents available and it take a few minutes if there are not many customers.

I just go to the one stop counter service in my village where I pay my electric bill and car payment. I give him my blue book and he goes to the transportation office and I just pay him 100 baht plus the renewal cost. Takes only one day and I do not have to drive to the transportation office and wait in line. There are some perks in living in a village rather than a large city.

Additional help re documents required please.

The car is being bought on HP so don't have the blue registration book. Do I simply take the HP agreement instead or is there something else needed?
