we need someone to hang a new door....

Featured Replies

Hi all

Does anyone know of someone who can hang a door? We need the bit cut out for the lock too. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

best way to find people for small jobs like that is ask your neighbors, not many workers want to travel much for a job that size

if you have three screwdrivers you can do it yourself; use two screwdrivers under the door as a see saw to get it straight and hold it up and use the other to screw in the hinges, not that difficult.

Took two men 3 days to fit out double teak doors with side panels, though that did include finishing the wood and staining, fitting windows in the side panels and removing the old PVC door.

Where is the OP? I can recommend my two guys if he's nearby, 400B a day per person, been working with wood for a combined 80 years.

Thanks all. Sadly we cant do it ourselves, it also needs the hole drilled for the handle. ..

Naboo, we are on Th. Sittiwong. If you could give contact details, that would be fab! Thanks again

I'm quite a way south of the city, I don't think my guys would want to come into Chiang Mai. Will ask though. If not, try asking at local wood stores, we were given three numbers by the people who supplied us with the door.

Yeh that will work great, one of the screw drivers can be used to trim the door to size, another one to drill the holes for the handle and latch and the final one to mortice for the latch then you can use all three to tighten your loose screws, yours, not the ones for the door.

Yes and it's not particulary hard to do it yourself ,just follow this video from Utube. They also do a video on external doors!

We could try to do it ourselves but we don't have the tools to put the hole in for the lock. Naboo, if you could ask that would be great. We could pay travel costs, its a bit of an emergency!

Good luck! Best go to someplace like Thai Watsadu or Nana Screw and buy some high-quality tools and follow the youtube video and DIY.

We went through this about 2 years ago, trying to get someone to hang a teak door and repair a teak Lanna-style bay window frame. We had 2 different guys come to give an estimate. Both of them looked at us and said the same thing "one door only?". Neither even bothered to look at the window. Both said they would get back to us with an estimate. We never heard from either of them again. Years ago it was easy to find good people to come and do small jobs, but with the building boom recently it seems no one wants to do small jobs anymore.

We finally had to end up buying an ugly metal frame window and having them remove the beautiful, old teak bay window and replace it with a modern one. A friend and I hung the door ourselves. Wasn't as difficult as I thought.

with my man, Firefly, but he's busy building a house right now. As Elektrified said, try Thai Watsadu and similar, they should have numbers for people.

hi had the same problem just finished building our house we went to hompro and they quoted to hang the 7 doors and fit the mortice locks for 30000 baht all the other large D I Y places would not do it in the end our contractor did the job but made a complete cock up of the job of course he said "can do job no problem" stupid me w00t.gif

That price is extremely high, outrageous really. Great carpenters hung all my doors for less than 1,000 Baht each including the fitting of locks.
