Education Ministry denied rumours of state policy to cut Muslim scholarships

BANGKOK, 25 October 2014 - The inspector-general of the Education Ministry has brushed aside rumours that the government is planning to cut Muslim scholarships, which have been circling on social media.

Minister of Education's Inspector General Adinun Pakbara on Friday said that rumours spreading on social media network which claimed the ministry is planning to seek a cut on Muslim scholarships for security reasons are not true.

Mr. Adinun said, on the contrary, the Education Ministry has been fully supportive of Islamic studies in other countries in order to help improve such curricula in Thailand.

Thailand has been the most active non-Muslim country in ASEAN when it comes to the promotion of Islamic studies, said the Inspector, adding that more than 3,000 Thai Muslims travel to Arab nations each year to further their education in Islam.

Perhaps someone could explain why these scholarships are in the best interests of Thailand. I think that explanation would provide some highly entertaining fiction.

To be honest I think they should stop funding this. If they want to study Islam they already have the "Koran" with all the steps to be a (trying not to laugh) fully well developed, open-minded, not terrorist in the future! Pass me the BACON sandwich!!!

They should stop all scholarships ASAP. These Muslim schools, especially in the Middle East are breeding grounds for terrorists. AND these studies are completely useless for the thai economy. Put money into engineering and science scholarships instead.
