BANGKOK: -- Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) will hold celebrations of the upcoming Loy Krathong festival at 28 public parks on November 6.

BMA’s environment department deputy director Suwanna Chungrungroeng said the BMA will hold the celebration of the event in Thai traditional way at the 28 public parks in Bangkok, including Lumpini, Chatuchak, Santi Chaiprakan and Benjakitti, from 3.00 pm–12.00 am.

All Loy Krathong revelers are invited to bring their families and loved ones to celebrate the Thai festival.

She encouraged people to use floating baskets, or “Krathong,” made from natural materials to avoid environmental pollution.

Those who would come in groups were advised to use only one Krathong, she said while stating that firecrackers will be definitely disallowed to bring into parks to play.

She said the BMA calls on vendors not to sell Styrofoam floating baskets and bans firecrackers sales at the public parks since they might cause danger.

4th, 5th and 6th of November, Willie.

Suwanna Chungrungroeng or her equivalents always draw up these killjoy criteria for occasions like Loi Kratong and the people always roundly ignore them. Loi Kratong without fireworks? Is there to be anything left of the fun Thailand we all knew and loved? Unless the authorities are going to provide palm tree Kratong bases at or cheaper than the styrofoam ones, that will be ignored too. The average Bangkokian doesn't have a palm tree in their garden. Same old, same old from the authorities.
