BANGKOK: -- Deputy permanent secretary of justice Mrs Suwana Suwanjutha has become the first female director-general of the Department of Special Investigation since its establishment 12 years ago.

She was nominated by Justice Minister PaiboonKoomchaya and her nomination was endorsed by the cabinet on Tuesday.

As the first female chief of the DSI, Thailand’s version of FBI, MrsSuwana is no stranger to this organization. Back in 2002 while assuming the post of an inspector-general, she also concurrently was named acting deputy chief of the DSI and a year afterward she was named an advisor to the DSI chief Pol Gen SombatAmornvivat.

In her capacity as the deputy permanent secretary of justice, MrsSuwana was head of a justice task force overseeing the DSI and the Forensic Medicine Institute.

MrsSuwana’s appointment was intended to ease resistance among staff within the organization against another policemen taking the rein of the department.

Her predecessors at the DSI are Pol Lt-Gen NoppadolSomboon, the first DSI chief, followed by Pol Gen SombatAmornvivat, SunaiManomai-udom, Pol Col ThaweeSodsong and MrTaritPengdit.

Maybe Tarit will have left her his ' DSI Chief's Operations ' Manual.

Should be an easy read for her as only one sentence, ' Pander to whoever is in power at any given time '.

Good luck to her, she cannot do much worse than her predecessor. Hopefully she can do her job independently, but i am sure she 'owes' the justice minister a favor now.

Liking the DSI to a Thailand version of the FBI is like chalk and cheese , the law enforcement area's of Thailand are pretty much held in low regard and viewed internationally as highly corrupt, , plenty of negatives and very few positives regardless of who is in charge, good luck Suwana , you're going to need it.coffee1.gif

Sadly her credentials for suitability are a double edged sword as with such a previous interactive role opposite the DSI she could not fail but notice how corrupt and manipulative it was ,yet is not on record of doing anything.

A Thai bureaucrat with little biography on getting at the corruption and lack of law and order/justice issue.

Well that is great......too many people with a biography on corruption and lack of law issues.....

Good morning and welcome Suwana.

Your first task is to hunt down your predecessor and put the scumbag in jail where he belongs.

I wonder if she is worried that it might be her turn in a year or two. This job is a real poisoned chalice.

According to some posters ALL the top jobs are soldiers.

And misogyny the norm...

It's terrible what living in an echo chamber does to some people's heads.

An excellent choice of a highly regarded and well qualified woman.

She graduated as an accountant. No sure that will qualify her in a investigative position.

An excellent choice of a highly regarded and well qualified woman.

And the choice ofcourse had nothing to do with that her husband is a personal friend of Prayuth??

No matter what government or which PM, nepotism is alive and well in Thailand!!coffee1.gif

In her professional capacity within the Justice Ministry, she assisted Red Shirts in getting bail and receiving visitors in prison, but I don't hold that against her.

Do you have any actual proof of misbehavior or illegal actions or favoritism, at any time in her career, in any of your empty, yet libelous, claims of nepotism?

No?

I thought not.

Her professional capacity in the Rights and Liberties Protection required her to assist the Red Shirtsto get bail. That's her professional responsibilities. Sorry you can't use that argument. I can't say much about nepotism as just about everybody in high positions have family connection somewhere along the family tree although some are pretty obvious.

Auditing, forensic accountant? Could be useful skills investigating fraud and corruption.

Does everyone in Thailand carry out their professional capacity requirements in Thailand without favor or bias then?

Her predecessor certainly didn't!

Tarit was able to adapt serving 2 governments before the coup. That's the idioscrantic nature of the politics in every government and all civil servants will have to work along those policy lines.

So then, you also have absolutely no actual proof of misbehavior or illegal actions or favoritism, at any time in her career?

I thought not.

Just another empty post casting wholly unfounded aspersions?

I thought so.
