Can single expats on Retirement visa (RV) buy (and register in their name) a motorbike in Tld?

I've long had the idea that foreign ownership of vehicles and property was not allowed for folk on Tourist visas, but what about RV?

Kindly update me.

Owning a vehicle is even possible on a visa exempt entry. It all depends on the interpretation of the local immigration and DLT offices.

If you are on an extension of stay (it is not a visa) based upon retirement you can certainly do it.

The major requirement is having a certificate of residency from immigration or a letter from your embassy to do the registration.

Well that is a surprise, and good news.

I'm emboldened to ask if I can buy and register a motorcycle here whilst on a Tourist visa, surely not?

Aside: Owning houses and land is still for Thais only, correct?

There are people on tourist visa that own bikes, cars and pickups.

You can own a condo but cannot own land but you can own a house that is on leased land or that you have a usufrunct for.

Thank you UbonJoe.

"There are people on tourist visa that own bikes, cars and pickups."

Yes, presumably married, but back in Tld on a temp TV, such as oil rig workers, and the vehicle is in the Missus' name.

I'm enquiring about the straight-forward rules for a single person on TV (accepting your response to the RV angle).

Yes, I'm aware of the dwindling number of Condo squatters, but we'd better keep the thread focussed on vehicles, especially since you mention usufructuary, which is bound to bring out the winos, asking what it is.

So that's a wrap for me Mate :)

As mentioned earlier, even on visa exempt it is possible to have vehicles in your name.
