Warrant issued for Rohingya 'insurgency operative'

BANGKOK: -- AN ARREST WARRANT has been taken out for a Rohingya man on the strength of an intelligence report from the new Security Problems Integral Centre claiming that he was an operative for the insurgency in the deep South and was preparing terror attacks in Thailand.

An internal police order issued on November 7 identified the suspect as Then Win, or Har San, aged 53.

A security source said yesterday that the man was preparing some money for plastic surgery to change his appearance.

He has also been accused of planning terrorist activities in Myanmar.

The order has been circulated to Metropolitan and Immigration police, but both bureaus and their senior staff denied knowing of it when contacted yesterday.

Meanwhile in Narathiwat's Si Sakhon district, separatists were suspected of hanging cloth propaganda banners at various locations.

At one spot, a villager said he was trying to remove a sign, which carried the "Pattani Independence" slogan like many of the others, but stepped on one of two home-made mines planted nearby.

Explosive-ordnance disposal personnel managed to detonate the other mine safely.

nice to see they have included his mobile phone numbers?cheesy.gif ...how about T R A C K I N G them

The reason violence continues in the south is that the ''Buddhist'' Thais in charge really don't give a flying F: It doean't affect them directly. Now if one of these groups were to set off a bomb at the Army Club, for example, I think we'd be suprised at how fast these terror cells were eradicated. The terrorists know this which is probably why they never venture north: better to prey on their helpless relious brothers and sisters.

No mention of evidence? So what we have is an arrest warrant based on probably a MILITARY intelligence report issued from probably a MILITARY organization against a person of an ethincity that has been consistently abused by Thai authorities. I suspect this arrest falls under martial law that is not subjected to the norms of the Thailand judicial system.

Regardless of whether this person an insurgency operarive or not, it seems the military is sending the message that it will pursue and arrest insurgency leaders. This would be an interesting policy when allegedly the military is trying to promote peace talks with the insurgency with resolution planned before the end of 2015.

A Rohingya involved in Thailand's insurgency in the South? Possible but it strains credibility. Who will be leading the insurgents next? Uighurs?
