A Cambodian-Australian convicted yesterday at the Supreme Court for dealing methamphetamine is trying to get his case reassessed due to an alleged lack of proper court procedure.

Thai Seth, 42, was sentenced to 10 years after he was found with nearly 500 grams of meth and a gun in 2010. Yesterday, Seth claimed he had stepped outside the courtroom when the verdict was read because the clerk had told him it would take another hour.

“The court declared the verdict, but did not let me in to listen to it. That is not normal,” he said.

The verdict was also read in the presence of two Supreme Court judges instead of the five required for trial, another abnormality Seth said he plans to take up with the Supreme Council of the Magistracy.
